Default Winter Wheels/Tires on the GT4

A few weeks ago, in the dead of the east coast winter, I purchased the GT4 from my older brother, with Dunlop Sport Maxx Race tires on them. I couldn't even drive the car because it's < 40 degrees! I purchased this beast, but couldn't even take it for a legitimate spin!

Today, I put an end to that. I bought some OZ Ultraleggera HLTs w/ Pirelli Sottozero tires, from a local RL member (@MJMacKay).

The fitment was for his former 991.1:
Front: 19x8.5 53mm | 235/40R19
Rear: 19x11 65mm | 285/35R19

But, it worked out just fine on the GT4 using 15mm spacers in back. After driving around for a half hour, I love the confidence I get in the cold weather. Definitely not going to drive the car in inclement weather, but it's nice to be able to drive in the cold now!

Wish I had done the same as I also hesitated to go out in the cold on the Dunlops. GT Silver looks great, btw.

Thanks!

Luckily, I don't drive to work, so my only driving (and my only vehicle) is for pleasure. So glad I got a winter set, even though I imagine many people think it's nuts to drive this car in the winter.

Definitely gotta watch out for salt and sand. There have been a bunch of days this winter where it was sunny and clean outside, but below 30 degrees.

On a separate note, I like the satin black look on the wheels; may need to seek out a trade for my Platinum Satin stockers before they go back on in the Spring

Looking for used wheels for the winter myself, but am not shure wich wheels will fit, from wich cars.
I have found a set HLT wheels used on a 997 turbo in 8.5x19 et53, 11x19 et50. Was sceptical about the rear with and offset - perhaps hitting something inside(rear toe link), or when using spacer, outside/wheel arch. But this would be the same as 65 and -15 spacer as you have, so thanks for confirmation!

How is the clearance to the brakes?
How is the clearance outside compared to stock wheel? Pics?

(In the track setup thread 19x11ET47 was confirmed to work with an aggressive setup, so I still have some concerns depending on the setup, If I should go more aggressive, and if so spacing is needed, and will it rub in the wheel arch).

You say the rim sizes, what about the tire sizes?

Nice catch!

Front: 19x8.5 53mm | 235/40R19
Rear: 19x11 65mm | 285/35R19

Updated the OP as well.

Nice! I miss driving my '10 Turbo in all weather with the proper tires, but I haven't done so with my GT4. Porsches are meant to be driven in all weather, so enjoy!

Since buying my GT4 in 9/2015 this has been my winter setup:
Starke Design BC (TireRack)
Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero
F: 245/40x19 w/ 8.5Jx19 ET52
R: 285/35x19 w/ 11Jx19 ET42
No spacers needed and handles dry/wet/snow well. The inexpensive wheels are not the highest quality but fine for winter service.

Yea! I think it's better with cheaper wheels, then you don't have to worry about salt and all that as much. But I got a great deal from a local RL member, so win-win. Your rear offset must be pretty aggressive; that's 8mm more poke than OEM. But it's not like you're tracking the car with winter wheels on, so may not matter.

Glad you helped me confirm the offsets would work, or else the GT4 would still be stuck in the garage. I may need to find me some satin black summer wheels, now, as a satin black stripe is slated for late winter
