Why do GT4 for sale have so many owners?
On cargurus today (12/16/2018) there are 90 GT4s for sale. 46 of them are one owner and 44 of them have multiple owners since 2016 or 2017 when car was driven off the dealer lot. I find this number of cars with multiple owners odd. For such a nice car, why does it change hands so frequently? I found many of them with 3 or 4 owners which I think is really strange. Is it simply younger buyers who want to own one over a summer but can't afford the payments and insurance year round? Or they try use it as a DD and realize that is not ideal? If you had one for a short period of time, please tell us why you sold it?
thanks
thanks

I guess this will be moved but car gurus doesn't read the auto check or car fax like a knowledgeable person would, I've seen cars on car gurus that stated 8 owners, I checked the car fax on my own it's 4 owners, so they count owners if there is a title re-issue or update, DMV stuff?, not actual owners. When reading these reports, car fax, etc. you need to look for "new owner reported" That will likely be a more accurate number. Another option is to call the seller and have a conversation.

A lot of the GT4 early adopters flipped them for the money grab too when they were all the rage, until the next new hot flavor came out.

There were a lot purchased new then sold almost immediately, I'm guessing people who have a really good 'in' at the dealer then flipped them when the market was bearing $15-2k markups. Now that the market is so soft of them, they're being dumped by the people who paid those crazy markups.
Of course this doesn't universally apply to all cars, but it came across a lot of them like this when I was searching before I bought a Spyder instead.

Keep in mind that these cars have been in owners hands for 3.5 yrs.
As LexVan stated, some early owners flipped them for profit or for near zero ownership cost. Others simply moved to the next hot toy.
Two years or so of ownership seems to be pretty common for GT cars... Some keep less, some longer but when the market stays hot and the economy is strong, people move in and out of cars.
This seems to be less of an effect on the Spyder but it was not/has not been nearly as popular car as the GT4.

Take a look at some of the 991.1 GT3's.

Also, many times these cars are leased, and then bought out at lease-end by the same owner, because the residuals were so favorable. Or, these are company cars, and then bought out at some time by the same person. In examples like this, it's the same owner, but it will ping the CarFax report twice.

I don't think it's that much of a mystery. GT4s are typically a 2nd/3rd car and used for the weekend/track days/etc. The threshold for hanging on to a fun car is going to be much lower than a primary one, and I'm sure people want to try something else.
Of course, the GT3/new GT4 aren't helping things.
