Default Car Relo - USA --> Italy

I have zero knowledge on this. Any idea of the process to take your car from USA (USA sold) to Italy (Long term - many years)? Experiences/Advice/Links???

Many thanks,
John

There are many people on the German Forum PFF who have done that. You basically need new front light, rear lights (orange indicators), reprogramming (indicators must not be on permanently), radio won’t work and you need a certificate from Porsche to get the car registered (emissions).

I was looking at shipping my car to France for a year or two. Assuming it's not too different but the taxes are not friendly, almost cheaper to buy a car in country. Something like 20% vat if you didn't buy and pay taxes on it already in another eu country to prevent importing from cheaper countries. I think you can do up to 6 months as a tourist and you just need to figure out insurance but long term insurance companies won't insure the car unless it's registered locally. Would love to hear what you find out, I still want to ship my car over one of these days...

Paying VAT is the big issue. You are almost better off selling in usa and buying in eu.

However, you pay VAT there too.

COSDEL and CARS, Europe are fantastic to deal with and can handle the whole process.

Curious as to what you ended up doing. I'm looking at something similar. May be doing a year in Germany, wondering if I should sell, store, or ship. If not the GT4, I'll explore shipping a motorcycle, too.

I'll be selling. More because of the local than anything else. If we were moving to a place more GT4 (or any low-nose car) friendly, I might think again. Plus the whole idea of the move is no mortgage/rent and no car payment...so yeah. Thanks again all for the feedback.

Sell it and buy it again directly in Italy (or in EU country).
In which Italian city are you moving?

Definitely much more practical than US import (and much easier to sell the car later on if you want).
