I looked at a Camaro ZL1 1LE today - talk me off the ledge

The reason I'd say not to do it is purely financial -- dealers never like to give full value for a trade, of course, but they ESPECIALLY hate to write a check for a trade and end up worse off cash-flow wise than they started the day. So you can about bet that you'll get a worse trade on a $70,000 Camaro than you will on a $130,000 Porsche, where you're the one writing the check at the end of the deal.
As far as the car, what-evs. If you like it, buy it. If you decide you don't like it after awhile, I'm sure somebody will sell you another GT4. You could even upgrade to Carmine next time!

Haven't read the rest of this thread, but coming from someone who's been in the business for sometime I can tell you that the average sales manager or used car manager has ZERO interest in cash flow, or cutting a check. That anxiety is reserved for dealer principles or controllers hahaha. I'd say the only reason to be afraid of a chevy dealer is because they'd be looking at your GT4 like its from outer space and have no idea what to put on the car. This might work out to your benefit since last time I checked the wholesale and retail book is higher than what you can realistically get in a short amount of time. But....Dont do it!!! Why? Just because... Cheers!

I would buy a C7 Grand Sport or Z06 over the Camaro... the Camaro is a MASSIVE car (dimension wise) and the inside is very dated in design. I don't love either characteristic. There is no debating the performance... but there is more to car ownership for me than lap times. If you want a very powerful and very fast car, get a Z06 and not the Camaro.

Seems like a lot of people talking about the Camaro being a fat pig have no real experience to back that up. Did you just compare the cars on edmunds.com and thought "wow, that looks really heavy!". The ZL1 1LE outperforms the Cayman GT4 in pretty much every way. Weight becomes pretty much irrelevant if it's still faster and handles better.

Nice lap. Here is me in my stock SS 1LE (200hp less than a ZL1). Only mods are alignment, track pads, and 18” square wheels with 285/645 P-Zero DH’s.
This chassis is insanely capable. Also, speedo is 6% fast due to smaller OD wheels/tires. Vmax was 142 I believe according to my AIM Solo

I don't doubt the performance but how reliable will it be over the long term? It seems like they were trying to make it even better than Z06 in terms of cooling, but with all of that comes extra complexity and more points of failure.
Personally I would go for the Grand Sport if I was switching brands.
