What you describe is what I would call just an interference fit. Friction welding is generally from relative motion between parts where they heat up and the interfaces "weld" themselves together. Here's a video:

I suspect friction welding is a robust and deliberate form of what you may have come across or heard about - galling or cold welding. I've had it happen on some expensive stainless parts one time. Under friction, maybe some heat, and pressure (like when tightening machine screw threads) the same metals will just bind themselves together. It's the dambdest thing. Stainless is prone to it. Lube can prevent it as well as a coating or using dissimilar materials.

What an excellent writeup Jimmy! Loved reading all your feedback, and it is quite on point. Wheels look good too

Thanks for the great info.

Yup.
It's as though he constantly suffers from constipation.

Thorough commentary, thanks. Did you drive before/after the wind buffeting blockers? I've been considering some.

I drove mine pre-buffers and it was really annoying especially on track even with a helmet on. I have the AWE set but any of the many options works and improves the windows down ride.

Thank you for this!
Southcoast Porsche Parts has the AWE units for $82 in their "Aerokit & Spoiler" section.
I'm sending in my order today.

AWE looks pretty close to OEM. The fitment isn't 100%, but 98% will do. Still better than other "stick on" options.

Porsche moved the mirrors (probably for aero reasons), not sure why they didn't realize that create wind buffering issues when the windows are down. It's been a few gen of cars now. Unless the testers only drive the cars with the windows up, how can you not notice it?

I have them as well and purchased through Suncoast-can really tell the difference if you like to drive with the window (or windows) down.

Fantastic thread Jimmy! Looking forward to more updates.

Curious why you chose 20" wheels over 19's?

Thank you.
For 19", I could do 19x9 front and 19x11 rear running R888R 265/35/19 and 305/30/19. However, that increases wheel gap and lower the car enough to scrape up my driveway (I'm barely clearing it now). If I had a dedicated track setup, it would be 19" all the way. Lower cost, better traction, and even lighter setup.

About 5% shorter gearing too....every bit helps.

Default New Stronger Tranny

The tranny replacement process was extremely painless, other than the wait. Dealer got the tranny 2 weeks after ordering and another week to get me in to get it replaced. I'm happy to know that I don't have to worry if the 3rd gear will fail again. Porsche ensured the new tranny has a stronger fully welded 3rd gear ring. Took her out for quick photos session with my trusty Canon 60D / 50mm 1.4 USM / Hoya Polarizing Filter. No post edits to the photos.

My car is for sale. Got a kid on the way, no time to drive it lately.

Don't sell your car, it's obvious how much you like it, & you'll miss it badly once you let it go. Driving time will vary year to year b/c life just gets busy sometimes. Exciting to here a new addition is on the way.
I've enjoyed your post, & good luck!
