I bought a 74 Audi 100LS in college for $150 and sold it a year later for $250. Sadly, that was the last time I came out ahead!

I did break even on a 996TT after putting 8,000 miles on it over 2 years (took it from 17,000 to 25,000). I spent $1000 replacing the Turbo Twist wheels with OEM Sport Technos, but I don't count that because I feel certain I'd have gotten the same amount with Turbo Twists as I did with Technos.

I sold my 996TT for a wack more than I bought it for (almost 20%) after driving it for 7yrs and putting about 35k miles on it. I was happy with that but it was not sufficient to cover the total costs to keep it running great including wear items like tires and brakes, but overall it was a cheap car all things considered. I could easily have made service and part choices that would have made that car completely free, including wear items, for the 7years but I like funky bits like unnecessary and discretionary GT3 LCAs and cup car tie links and numeric shifters and all those bits. And I probably could have made 20% including wear items had an aftermarket coil over set not gone south on me after 3 years causing me to have to rebuy all four corners.

If you make decent choices cars can prove to be free over time.

I previously owned a GT4 that was a stripper build car I used for track. My second go-round, I wanted something really special. I had been on the hunt for a while for something interesting. I ended up buying a PTS car with low miles CPO and paid well over MSRP over for it. I got exactly what I wanted and didn't look back.

I've had a bunch of GT cars but the GT4 has a special place in my heart. I'm glad to be back in one.

Bad time to sell is relative. Kind of like market timing. Better now beginning of track season than dead of winter. A year ago like hotcakes. Now not so much. Future?
Here we have inflated tabs. >900 per year for this car. Saved on this by selling before end of May. Insurance savings?
Now I'm tracking the 2018 GTS. Different animal than previous GT3 and GT4. Left foot resting.
Mine sold in about 2 weeks.

Yeah, the market is soft, but it could get softer. Or firm up. Who knows? If the new GT4 comes out with a 4.0 at $110k, we are looking at $80k max for any 981 GT4. Or, it could go the other way, with the GT4 pushing GT3 pricing, and drive demand for the "cheap" GT4.

Drive what you want (and what you can afford!)

You seem to be a good person to buy cars from!

No guarantee of next GT4, personally, I do not see it happening

Who knows but I will be shocked if the new car, whatever it is, doesn’t trade at a nice premium to list for at least the foreseeable future after it comes out. Removing uncertainty from the market should lift current GT4 prices alone as most (not me!) are probably sitting on their hands to see what impact the new car has in the current car pricing which is slowing the current market. Plus, let’s say the new car is $120k trading for the next while at $140k+ ..........the current car might see momentum again.

I just bought my car 6wks ago so what do I know but I feel that now is a good time to buy the current GT4, especially in the Us where they’re trading at or below list price.
