If you sold your GT4 to buy a competing car, what would it be?

Depends on what you want.
There are a few sporty sedans mentioned in this thread. None compete with a GT4.
There are a few sporty coupes mentioned in this thread. None compare with a GT4.
There are even a couple actual sports cars mentioned. Those are a better comparison, but still not the same.
The reason answers are all over the place is - in it's price range, there really isn't a good GT4 competitor. You need to spend almost 50% more to get close.

I need back seats, so the 991.2 Carrera and Carrera GTS came into view as the closest thing with four seats. The T would be in there now, as well. And it turns out the Carrera is a VERY good replacement to meet my needs while tipping the scales in terms of intent back towards livability without giving up as much fun as I worried it might.
If I didn't need back seats in my daily car, there is only one Porsche that would have gotten me out of the GT4...and that's a 991.2 GT3 6MT. But that gets back to your point about price range. The GT4 really is in a class of its own. It was a master stroke by Porsche...

I’m pretty sure they go in the 70-80k range now for good examples. In the past couple years, Z28 and ZL1 1LE, both went under MSRP pretty quick. While not limited, they were/are made in pretty low numbers ~2500. So I’d bet the ZR1 follows those two examples... maybe
I’m not sure why, but the Chevy crowd doesn’t go for the ADM. It’s like expected, to go at or under MSRP. If you troll the 1LE boards, they freak out about MSRP.

Price range competitors for a GT4 I would consider
M4
GT350R
To me the shelby gt350R is a totally different experience and for the money (75k msrp ish) is a damn beast. Understood not everyone would like it, not everyone likes a lady who can do pullups and choke you out in the octagon but some people are into kinky stuff too.

I just pre-traded my GT4 on a new GT3 order. I loved the idea of the gt4. I love the Caymans mid engine dynamics. I was the first person EVER to take the green flag in a professional motor race in a Cayman. I ran the shop that built the Cayman Interseries Cars, and raced in that series very successfully, and had a ton of fun in them.
My GT4 street car was just underwhelming. Whether the gearing, the lack of the high compression gt motor, the weight and size of the 981 chassis, or a combination of all of those, it just didn't do it for me.
I AM nervous that the 991.2 Gt3 will also feel large, heavy and disconnected, however my hope is the engine and gearing will make it a better car over all for me.
I'll never get rid of my 987 Spyder or 997 GT3RS

I recently sold my GT4 (December 2017) and kept my 2015 Z/28 - I am a long time Porsche guy, but the the Z was so much fun the $$$. I bought both new, the Z a year after I got my GT4 when I could not find a GT350R. I found myself driving the Z/28 when I had time and the GT4 was sitting in the garage. Still hoping for GT3 allocation as my next Porsche. The fit and finish of the GT4 was so far superior to the Z/28 (which is pretty **** poor, but you just don't care when you drive it) - but the LS7 motor makes it fun in any environment and it brings constant entertainment into any drive. Plus you can buy one with less than 3,000 miles in the $45k range.
GT4 is a great car and I do miss it, but change is good. Wanted to move something to make room for my Shelby GT350S (like a cup car from Ford) that is coming sometime soon. So kept the Z and moved on from the GT4 as value has really held up well.
I am in the market for a DD right now and I looked at the RS3, TTRS, M3 and M4 and settled on 2018 VW Golf R after driving a 2017 - been waiting for that for months, hoping for March release - for $42k was a no brainer to have fun racking up miles.
