What’s the point of deposits and lists when they intend to sell every car to the highest bidder (“market price”)?

Looking at the list of Porsche executives that are available for interviews in Geneva, I do not expect anything significant from the GT department to be there at all. Unfortunately.

I have in writing my deposit amount, MSRP sale, and position in line for said car "GT4" "Spyder" "GT4RS". They're supposed to honor the position that I'm in for the said car that I put a deposit down for, I'll hope for the best.

Because it gives you the option to at least get one if they turn out to be scarce?

I'd put a few grand to secure a low spot on a list, just in case. Fully refundable here in CA, so it's basically buying an option for no cost.

Same here, except for the GT4RS bit. Been in the waiting game since October 2017... Feels long.

I asked specifically about dealers that invite deposits and make lists yet announce that they will sell their cars at “market prices” (i.e. to the highest bidder). Makes no sense.

I phoned around until I found a dealer 8 hours away willing to sell the car at MSRP, put a deposit down and got it in writing.

They'll look at what the market is willing to pay for a GT4 in the SoCal area. Lets say $15k ADM. Then they'll start going down the list. #1 guy on the list. Are you wiling to pay $15k. "Yes". Ok you get a car.
#2 guy do you want a car for $15k ADM. "No". Ok, Next person and so on...

Which means that you will get "The Ok" after they have processed all of the ADM schmucks and demand meets MSRP.

Didn't Porsche reveal the Speedster at Goodwood for the first time?

Ok, so two model years of GT4/Spyder. Now we are talking about another line of 718s with a 6? It sounds like the "last NA 6" may not be such a special or limited run after all unless this other NA 6 is a limited run. Certainly from a collectibility standpoint....

Also, purposely delaying a PDK (assuming this happens) to the second model year is really a not good for customer move. It puts some of us in an awkward position. I have been on a list forever and really prefer a PDK model particularly after having my 991.1 Carrera S PDK out today.

A number of publications and people have referred to this "Cayman or Boxster 6" as a GT4 touring. Don't know if that is what it is? Then the articles go on to state the similarity and success of the GT3 touring as a reason for this possible production. THE BIG DIFFERENCE, HOWEVER, IS THE GT3 HAD A PDK MAIN ALTERNATIVE TO THE TOURING. To offer stick ONLY on the GT4, then to have a wingless touring stick is not apples compared to apples! And if it really is a "touring" as some have suggested, does this not point to a high likelihood then of a PDK standard GT4 being available?

Also, I really wonder how many 991.2 GT3 and RS cars are "getting pumped out". Do we have the numbers to confirm this? Can they really easily be had at MSRP?

Not sure I follow any of this but re 991.2 GT production; there are a couple of threads in the 991 GT forum that have all of the production data — and the volumes are high.

good catch... unfortunately my earlier prediction of letting the 718 “T” have some room might be true... sounds like Geneva will be about the production Speedster.

Unless someone walks in with a $20k ADM bid. The list seems to merely rank buyers by their right of refusal to match the highest bidder which may or may not be on the list — that is, if the dealer honors it in the first place.
