718 GT4?

That kind of power would warrant the prices being thrown around. However I go back to Whoopsy’s original cryptic post of 420 horses.

...................Not to mention a GT4 basically the same price as a GT3. Porsche isn't the most profitable auto manufacturer by launching products without carefully planning them......
GT4 will always be the gateway drug into GT3 and GT3 RS.....they want you to stay hungry for more so you make the jump to the bigger brothers or upgrade to the next version.
Of course all this is also my opinion......

Judging from the power and price increase from the 991.1 to 991.2 GT3, my guess is that 420hp, 4.0L, and about $95-98k base price all seem to sound about right. And when I say 4.0L, I suspect something a lot closer to the current engine than the GT3 engine. Just my 02 cents.

I’m in the same camp as above. Sub $100k, 420 hp and likely a 4.0L that they can market as a “GT3” engine but the people who know, know that it’s a different motor.
I would still like to hear from all the people who said that the street car HAD to have the same engine as the club sport of all this pans out to be true...

Does 3.8 vs 4.0 matter? 991.1 3.8l was 475hp & GTS was 430hp, heck, even the old 997 3.8 was making 435-450hp and that will be nearly a decade old by the time the 718 GT4 is released. Porsche doesn't have to go to 4l to make the power it needs for the 718 GT4 but if they do go to 4l, it'll be the first modern 4l flat six that makes less than 500hp (so lame).
If the 718 does go to 4l, I bet it will be for marketing, emissions, and cost reasons vs outright performance. 4l means they can call it a GT3 engine. Extra capacity means they have more room to compensate for the gpf and they don't have to rev the engine as hard to make that power which is better for emissions. Finally, it is cheaper to add displacement vs revs to make the same power.

You do mention a very important thing...emissions.
At thew CS launch one of the things mentioned is that they were not sure the Old 9A1 3.8L would meet emission but for the race track that is not a problem. Another bit of info that they would be changing something on the street car.
So as you mentioned....they could increase displacement to compensate all the new emissions equipment (like particulate filter) while still delivering the next level of performance expected in the 718 GT4.

Are you lot all expecting a new gear box to to go with the 450hp predictions? Ie stronger internals and better LSD?

My SA told me some months ago that it would be a 6 turbo. An at a different dealer where I bought my Macan GTS told me that it would be a NA flat-6. I think they know as much as anybody else.
My SA will be part of the staff at the P-booth in Geneva like every year so if the GT4 is finally shown there he may have already received better information, although I guess he will be bound by a specific NDA...

Brand loyalty - interesting concept, probably goes with the Porsche lifestyle choices outlined in Christophorous . I think the code is XLR8$ and its available from Porsche exclusive for a small fee.

As we are in a holding pattern waiting for the Geneva release this may serve to entertain some. Forgive me if this stuff has been posted elsewhere. Interesting video and sound all about the CS though (some different footage and sound).. Hope you all have a EOI in at your local dealer. We can expect quite a car/s!

It would not be the first time Herr Georg Kacher messed up though. I remember him posting an article (Autobild in 2014) about a cheaper lighter baby Boxster using a 4 cilinder engine. Guess what it was called...
