718 GT4?

Hmm, so here's an idle question for everyone, and it's actually somewhat related to the 718 GT4...
I've got a 2016 Cayman GTS with about 12,000 miles on it. Warranty will be done in February - i.e., next month. I've been drooling after a 718 GT4 ever since I heard they were going to make one, because I'd really like more power and the various other performance-enhancing goodies that come with it. However, I love my GTS.
So, given the high probability that there will be ADM over and above the MSRP, and that I've no guarantee of getting an allocation (although my dealer tells me I'm on the "list"), do I:

- Get a 718 GT4 and eat both the depreciation on my GTS as well as the combination of the inevitable price increase of the GT4 plus the ADM.
- Keep the GTS, but do some upgrades - like the @BGB Motorsports 3.8L X51 conversion, possibly some kind of brake upgrade.
- Look for a good 981 GT4, but I'm not convinced that it's really worth it for me to go from GTS --> GT4
- Keep the GTS as is, and go spend my money on something more sensible

Would love to hear a blow by blow commentary on the items that have changed and your views as to the difference relative to the 981.
Also very interested to hear impressions of the drive and feel through different corners and any sense of change in corner speed.
Thanks in advance

IMSA Roar before the 24 at the end of session 6.
72 GS class cars - after 6 sessions, GT4 CSs recorded the top six fastest lap times and seven of the top ten fastest times.
and somewhat surprisingly recorded 3 of the top six Vmax speeds (out of six sessions, note the fastest laptime in 2018 was 1:55.247)
So the GT4 CS is both quick and fast

I reckon you didn't try the GT4 yourself. Otherwise you wouldn't be asking. The GT4 is a radically different beast. First there's the loud exhaust when you start the engine. Then the heavy clutch (we use other manual cars, but none has such a heavy clutch). When you start moving, the hard ride is immediately obvious. The nose is low so you have to consider that when going over speed humps. After a few hours, it gets very tiresome all together. It's no good for normal daily use was my conclusion. This has nothing to do with the horse power BTW, the 385 are very manageable indeed.
Did a shorter testdrive one day with a 981 GTS PDK but my conclusion was it's not that different from a basic 981
18 months later and my deposit for a 4,0L manual 718 GT4 is out! Will be selling my 2.7 and combine the use of the GT4 with our comfy 968 3,0 manual and a Stromer ST3 speed pedelec bike...

But remember these are still only rumours to some. We will all know very soon which rumours and conjecture is true. There are plenty out there who still think Porsche will put a 3.8l in the road even though they have not made a production engine of this capacity since 2016 and are rationalising. .In the end it will be a superb car no matter what the engine and gearbox configuration is..

Looking forward to hearing more from BGB and GP racing and others with real insights. 👍🏁. Particularly those that recently drove at Roar and will have a sense of how the key changes may influence the road cars.

My daily is a 981 2.7 PDK but I hired a GT4 for a full 24h private Tour of Belgium in 2017. Did 1000 km in it! All kinds of roads I could think of, as far as Spa (without actually going on the track, it was forbidden).

The GT4 is a lot less street friendly than the GTS. So if you love your GTS, you probably should stay put and just add power or change the gearing. I've driven my friends 981S several times on and off the track and it is a fine car, but a lot more civil than the GT4. FWIW, the LWB's are the biggest difference, but all the stuff Yellow Submarine pointed out are a factor also. I could drive a 981s or GTS on a daily basis, minus the practicality, but that is not why I got a Cayman. I bought one because it serves a different purpose. It's my track toy and "just for joy vehicle", and for that the GT4 is perfect. I would not enjoy it on a daily basis.
As always, it is about compromises. I used to have one car that served a multi purpose, which M3's are great for, but if you want the best of both worlds, then you need two cars, one for DD and one for fun/track. Otherwise, pick your poison.

I put a deposit in for a GT4 last year, I'm going to hand in my fully loaded 991.2 Targa GTS (and some $$$?) for a Macan GTS as a daily driver and GT4 for track use and fun drives. I'm hoping the GT4 will be offered with PDK, anyone know yet?
