If they are running the X51 cams and valve springs then presumably not much more revs. Would guess still 7800rpm, maybe 8k if the intake pushes the peak up a little higher....

[edit] Ah, just saw the presser - 7800rpm but now power peak is 7500rpm!!! This is where I hit peak power in my x51, this will be an exciting engine!

Hmmm... wonder how the octane requirement fits into the upgraded HP of 425? Does this mean the street car if using the same 3.8 may have lower HP due to the lower octane fuel available?

Engine
  • Aluminium six-cylinder mid-positioned boxer engine with rigid mounting
  • 3,800 cc; stroke 77.5 mm, bore 102 mm
  • Max. power: 313 kW (425 hp) at 7,500 rpm
  • Max. rpm: 7,800 rpm
  • Max. torque: 425 Nm at 6,600 rpm
  • Compression ratio: 12.5:1
  • Racing optimised water cooling with thermal management for engine and gearbox
  • Four-valve technology with adjustable camshaft phasing and variable valve timing VarioCam Plus
  • Fuel quality: Super Plus unleaded, minimum 98 octane
  • Racing optimised electronic engine management (Continental SDI 9)
  • Integrated dry sump lubrication
  • 100-cell metal catalytic converter complying with DMSB specifications

Transmission
  • Rear wheel drive
  • 6-speed PDK gearbox with rigid suspension and electronic control unit optimised for racing
  • Reinforced dual mass flywheel
  • Internal pressure oil lubrication with active oil cooling
  • Differential lock optimised for racing

What information can be derived from all this about the upcoming 718 Spyder?

So Porsche's newest gt product uses a 4 year old engine (that was replaced as it was no longer competitive) making less power than when it was originally released in the 911....thanks?

I am sure the chassis is brilliant but the engine seems like a let down.

so...the "Trackday" version at 134,000 Euro. is this going to be available to individuals or will there be a commitment to club race?

Kind of sounds to me like a 981 GT4 with a few bolt on parts basically. Hopefully there are some new tricks up its sleeve other than that.

7800 Redline according to official announcement.
Unsure if this is the same or was bumped up from 7600.
The last car was started as 7600 even though some people here mentioned it was 7800.

looking at the difference in price/features between the trackday and competition version I would expect most to get the competition version....it seems better value (unless it requires a series commitment)
