This is one fair reason to believe it will not be a 6 cyl turbo...
Thank you for sharing the specific reason why.
In that case, it's between the 4 cyl and the flat 6 NA engine. I am really thinking and hoping Porsche would not go down 2 levels engine wise on the next GT4.

I have a strong feeling the GT4 will see the GT3 engine with a small throttle body.

I also wouldnt be shocked if they put the cayman GTS motor in the 718 Spyder...

Not only that, but due to the upcoming EURO emission requirements room will have to be found for the particulate filter(s).

when you take away the dry sump, forged pistons and titanium rods.... you’re basically back to the non Motorsports 3.8 engine they started with.

if they detune the engine enough, which presumably they need to to hit both a certain power spec AND a certain price point for the GT4, then it is no longer a "GT3" engine, at that point it is all just marketing.

Keep in mind that the GT3 makes 500 hp at only 8,250 rpm. So, just lowering the redline to 8k is unlikely to do much to the power. To get to 420hp from engine speed reduction alone would require ~7k redline. My fear is that they'll also do something very unfortunate like prevent the throttle from opening all the way at high revs or something else similar (like the previously mentioned choked intake size)

Fear? Very unfortunate?

i don’t understand. If you get a car with a naturally engine making 420 hp and it’s based on the race bred GT3 engine, what do you care how they got there?

I guess my concern would be the resulting character of the power delivery. Didn't mean to be overly dramatic One of my favorite things about the GT3's character is the rush to 8,500 rpm (honestly, it flattens out there a bit on the way to 9k). I just hope the engine in this car still has a nice high-rev flourish - and I hope they don't lower the redline too much which necessitates tall gearing.

No flame, but why do you care? You sold your GT4 because you are a 911, GT3 guy. Or are you planning to sell your GT3 in case the GT4 comes with a high rev engine?

Just a fan of the brand and one of my best driving buddies is in line for a GT4 via Euro Delivery.

And it’s certainly possible that I’d own a GT4 again.

I wouldn’t! If I could afford it, and could find an allocation... I would be in a GT3 with no hestitation. I love my GT4, but GT3 is on another level.

lol... there’s a term for what’s going on here. It’s called circular reporting. You can trace most of these articles back to one root source.
