Never going to happen. There already is a GTS and it has a 4 banger. Porsche has zero reason to put NA 6-cylinders in any other 718 cars.

I doubt the ROI is there to put out a new model that is basically the same as a GT4. The R&D, testing, certifications, marketing...all those things cost money. Hell, there are separate crash tests for manual vs. automatic vehicles.

This is part of the reason the 981 was manual only. The GT department didn't have the budget to add PDK. They'd have to program shift logic, separate TC/ESC/PTV maps, add PTV+, certify, road test, crash test, etc. Just the tip of the iceberg in designing just for transmission differences.

People really don't know what goes into car design. Just because you want something or you think it makes sense to enthusiasts, doesn't mean it can happen.

Remember, the Cayenne SUV saved Porsche.

A verified 718 GTS 4.0L would cannibalize some GT4 sales. But Porsche could use the 4.0 GTS to offer PDK and it would remove the large rear wing. Non racers, wanting a NA engine, need fewer GT race parts, and the selling price should be less than MSRP. Probably at least $15,000 less, everything else equal. Added sales, over and above, cannibalized GT sales, and a broader base to spread the 'new' 4.0L engine development costs over. The expert Porsche bean-counters will make the right call for maximum profit.

Since I don't own a 981 GT4, and don't want a "suspect" used one, it's a new GT4 for me, supposed warts and all. I'm sitting at about $110,000, plus sales tax, plus $1.8K gas guzzler tax, plus who knows what else. Not a perfect car, but more than acceptable. My name isn't Hamilton

A 4.0 GTS is intriguing, however.

Yes if you can get a new car at msrp that makes sense. You might find that your $110k car is actually $125k, and that might change your math.....

40k difference between my current GT4 and a new one equipped the same way, and thats assuming No ADM and 85K on my sell/trade in.....thats too big of a hit

Floor mats, cruise, garage door opener, rear camera, wiring and interfaces for that, etc. There may also be structural implication due to DOT rules like side impact that are different. It all adds up.

Curb weight is also 100% fluids including fuel whereas DIN is 90%. That’s ~10 pounds right there (1.69 gallons extra)

Also, curb weight has to include options believed to be sold in 33% or more of the vehicles. So if Bose is expected to be sold in 1/3 of vehicles, they have to add that in.

Motor is integral dry sump. So not a real dry sump.

Re: weight. In addition to DIN math, AC was an option on the first spyder, no? Was radio delete an option? The PCM and the AC especially weigh a ton.
