BTW GT4 is not on the video so is pointless to say that it would be a turbo or not. Some people are just afraid that new one will ne NA so their cars would go down in value.

The next person that's close enough to do a quick ground level shot of the engine area gets a cookie.

Perhaps some are, although "afraid" is probably too strong a word; more like, "Hoping the 718 will be turbo so their GT4 will go UP in value".

But I think most of us want the next GT4 to be NA, even those of us who have no intention of switching to it from our 981 GT4. It's likely to be the last NA motor Porsche builds unless lots of governments change lots of rules, so I would be honored to have the last NA standard-bearer be a Cayman rather than a 911 (and I've owned plenty of 911s).

Was the noise definitely from the Spyder ??
Could it not have been from the car that the photographer was driving in.
He would be accelerating/decelerating with the Spyder and so could sound similar as well.

Also, there was somebody here who met AP during the Geneva auto show where AP again mentioned that the next GT4 was going to be NA. That would be pretty blatant in my opinion.

Driving experience of naturally aspirated bespoke motorsport engines is superior. Last GT4 didn't do it for me with the tall gearing and de-tuned carrera motor. Still have hope for that 4.0

Could it be that the Spyder can’t actually fit a NA engine in the back owing to the roof also requiring space ?

I really hope we get a proper sound clip of the GT4 at the nurburgring or something.

+1. Could just be the different exhaust but it sounds a lot better than the base 718 the dealer loaned me.....

Well, the Spyder has already had a 3.8L NA flat-six, and the 982 engine compartment should be no smaller than the 981 Spyder was, and the 4.0 9A1 is no larger than the 3.8 9A1 was.

So, FWIW, I also listened to the clip now and my vote is firmly in the 4-pot camp. That is not a six-cyl. Unless it has some kind of cylinder deactivation at low loads.

I agree. I have listened a few times and I do not hear a turbo. Sounds like a NA engine to me.

Amazing the difference in what people hear. I’ve shown the vid to my Denver porsche GM, their GT specific tech and to our Colorado group “GT chat” with all echoing unanimous flat 4 turbo sound.

Playing a 718 GTS vid and a 981 sypder vid makes it even more obvious.

I think the woman driving is smirking as she knows how much consternation that video will cause internet speculators.
Porsche will tell us the real story soon enough.
