Interesting to read
This bodes well for my $75k bid on a low miles CPO 981 Spyder with heated seats and leather -- manual top be damned.

Though all bids are off if the 718 Spyder offers an auto top as a Touring option.

Now..unless the reporter is making things up or editing things....they are quoting a real source from PAG with real info.

Miata is an outstanding car for road use for exactly the reason above. I wish they offered it with more possibility of individualization.
That said, I love the power and handling of Porsches. But to trade the 981 Spyder for a 718 Spyder, specifically for more top end performance........we all makes our own decisions and have our own lines we will or won't cross, but looking to explore 40 more hp exclusively at the top end wouldn't feel responsible in my hands on my local roads. Not that many places to play with it at limits as it is.....

You can't get out of 2nd gear without breaking the law...the last thing it needs for the street is more top end performance.

Wow is right!

"It won't be the 3.8-liter—Scholz told us it's only for the race car. After all, this engine hasn't been in production for a while, and it's doubtful that it meets the most recent emissions regulations."

"But, speaking to our colleagues at Car and Driver in 2017, Andreas Preuninger, head of GT road cars at Porsche Motorsport confirmed that Porsche has no intention to go turbo for the Cayman. That leaves one possible engine for the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport—the 4.0-liter flat-six used in the 911 GT3. It makes 500 hp in the GT3, though we have to imagine it'll make less in the GT4, just to keep the hierarchy in place."

I would place more trust in what people on this forum state as opposed to a car magazine.

However, even here there seem to be 2 types of speculation for the road car:
1, 3.8L engine from the clubsport: TCS, BGB, Whoopsy
2, 4.0L NA engine which does not exist in any other production car: CJ, Chris

I would think all of the above are way more credible than the majority of the car magazines out there. If only they all agreed on 1 engine variant for the road car.

If you read between the lines from all the comments from those in the know, it's fairly clear there will be a 3.8L engine in the road GT4 and spyder, while later, the end of run, range topping GT4RS will get the 4.0L.

This also makes plenty of sense from a Porsche hierachy and marketing standpoint.

So Matthias Scholz of Porsche GT Motorsports says that the road car wont get a 3.8, which essentially leaves the 4.0
It's not like Car & Driver is making this up out of thin air.

He's smoking something.

And clearly there will be no GT4 touring. If you want an NA, manual, 2 seater (real 2 seats that is) from Porsche, then a GT3 touring is the way to go. I even have a brand new one for sale in the RL classifieds.......
