It depends on the trackday organiser. UK trackdays are pretty relaxed (almost too relaxed) about who or what is on track as long as it doesn't have bits falling out or looks like it's too clapped out. Quite a few european organisers have a requirement for road legal cars as in some cases it comes under 'sport driving instruction' or something as I think it has something to do with european road insurance covering trackdays. The nurburgring days I go to with european trackday are invariably road legal cars only for example and i think the days they organise at Spa are the same but the UK TDO days at Spa are under the same rules as UK trackdays ie race cars are fine.

There was always a larger displacement motor planned for the GT4.

We don't know for certain. And won't for another couple of months.

What we can gather from folks that supposedly have inside information is as follows:

Spyder - NA 3.8 - Manual first, PDK later
GT4 - NA 3.8 - Manual first, PDK later
GT4 RS - NA 4.0 - PDK

All of that could be right. Or wrong. Hopefully we'll know about the Spyder and GT4 in March.

This is the worst possible news.
Anyone who has a current GT4 will ask stupid money.
Anyone who wants a 718 GT4 wont be able to pick a manual.
The car stays out of reach of people who have busted themselves saving money to reach one.
Now out of reach.

OK, thanks for the clarification.

If that holds true, and the engine is similar to current GT4 but with 40 more hp. So not earth shattering. Sure anybody would rather have the 718 GT4 if the cost increase wasn't a factor, but with the MSRP likely going up a bit, plus high demand and DAM, it would not necessarily have been worth waiting for those of us who just bought recently. In other words. To put things in perspective, I got a mint 3k mile, $103k MSRP 981 GT4 (with full Xpel) for ~$93k. A similar 718 GT4 would set me back at least another $25k (if I include the cost of the protective film). For a fraction of that I can add the 40 hp I would think.

There will be a manual option available (probably first builds) but one could opt for a PDK as well. So we can all relax. There will be choice and perhaps a nice surprise.

i have never attended a track day in Europe where non-registered cars are banned. What some organiisers like Pistenclub will do is run cars with slicks in a separate group from cars with road tyres with no obligation for the car to be registered. Other organizers like RSR will run all cars together whether they are dedicated track/race cars or road registered cars.

Already a better result than the gen 1 car, when the gen 1 first shows up back then, they are threatening to kill the driver whenever. It was sprung way too stiff. The MR package fixed that.

Interesting article. The truth is becoming clear. Folks listen to the sound of the road car test mules again. There is a newer increased capacity engine coming in the road car.

Interesting. So the engine might be the GT3 engine after all. That would be crazy and would suggest a big price increase to keep things in line.

One could also hope for those intake manifold parts that they are using on the CS to become available for the current 981 GT4 engine, which I think are the X51 parts.

Buried further in the thread. The 40hp comes from..."3.8L with x51 intake cam and valve springs, gt3 throttle body along with gt3 991.2 intake manifold".

Agreed, but the article is current (today's date) with the release of the CS now behind us, and info form a Porsche source. So it holds a bit more water than before. Even though I never thought it made sense for Porsche to but the GT3 engine in the GT4, it also never made sense for BMW to but the M3/4 engine in the M2, yet they did. It seems to me that it could make sense, if they increase the price by a good margin. there is enough of a gap between where the current GT4 MSRP was and the 991.2 GT3 MSRP is. Just thinking out loud here. If a 718 GT4 with detuned GT3 engine would cost around $125-130k, then that should fit in nicely.
