For the record, i don't know exactly what's in there and nor will i till i yank the engine cover off of it in 2 weeks. After which there will be some more waiting until it's public. Just like you folks, i'm speculating and haven't been told anything. When i asked 3 times, it was super ambiguous as if i was talking to the cat that had just eaten the canary. It's definitely not an X51 motor. I asked and they said no. My point was that it would make enough power to forego the type of Stage II upgrades and then you could move on to the stroke upgrade to get the torque.

And agree about the X51 comment. I would probably consider investing some money in my car and getting a tune, plenum, headers/exhaust work done and call it a day. I just need a bit more acceleration in my car!

It's a huge difference. If you do go that route, https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1117747

X51 may have made sense say a year ago, but I think that ship has sailed and it needs to be setup for market pressures for its honeymoon period. In other words, if its not a 4L then it will be a mistake.
Hope Porsche HQ realize this and are listening.

He said it uses the same engine case as the 991.2 GT3. That means it has the same bore and cylinder spacing. It may or may not have the same stroke as the 991.2 GT3.

BGB says he was told it’s not just the old engine with X51, but also said that his “Stage II” upgrades (incl X51) can be skipped. Thus, we know the motor will maintain torque to the top of the rev range.

Maybe it’s a 4.0, or maybe it’s a destroked 991.2 GT3 motor that’s only 3.8L. What we do know is that it’s not just the same motor as the 981 GT4, with or without X51.

At least that’s what I understand. The last Boxster mule video makes me confident it’s an NA flat six. Apart from that, I don’t really know what the motor is.

You are not going back enough in history. His engine case comment was in regards to a position taken by a new member.

"Its not a X51 motor" Correct
Its not a turbo - Correct
So it is a ...... motor. That is why it sounds so different compared to the 981 GT4 in every clip we have all watched.
Fill in the blank people.
Nice up grade in every way compared to the 981 GT4. Exciting car.

A nice upgrade could be a higher redline too or something else that nobody's guessed yet.

I am not so sure that it would be a 4.0L because the people here who've seen the car and are in the know never said or even suggested that it would be a 4.0L. Even whoopsy agreed that it might no longer be a 4.0L. I am unable to find that post but definitely remember reading it.

The only 4.0L mentions were from some other forums and not from guys here who've seen the car. From everything that we've seen here, it should mostly be some version of a 3.8L engine.

Not only was that Boxster clearly NA 6-cyl, but also M/T. Very good. Although I am confused. A "T" Box/Cay should be a base 718 Box/Cay, 4-cyl, 300hp T/C, with shorter gears and some weight measures - if it was following the 991 route. But a completely different engine than the base/S/GTS...? Are they doing a GT4 Touring...? Damn it... I totally would... Need more garage. And money.

A GT4 Touring with shorter gearing than the 981 GT4 would be my perfect car.

They could simply call it Boxster 3.8 or 4.0 depending on the engine size.

Great, a non GT4, with a 3.8 or 4.0L engine. Not a reasonable Porsche marketing move, IMO.

Actually checking Order Guide boxes for my GT4 allocation will be such a relief

It is actually quite funny how they're looking for any opportunity to replace the 4-pot turbo with flat 6 NA engines
