Not quite. Don't think they'd announce it as feasibility study if Dumas was just having fun with the car.

It's been a few days now and there's been no new information or videos or anything. I thought it would get better and better, the closer we got.

Does anybody know how much quicker the new car will be. There's all this talk about the Cayman S being faster than the 981 GT4 with the same tires and all that. The new car will have to be significantly faster than the older car to stay on top.

They took 24 seconds from the 991.1 GT3RS's 'Ring time with the 991.2 GT3RS, with only 20 more hp. So yeah, very interested in what they manage to do to the 981 GT4's time of 7:40.

The 991.1 3RS time was in the wet...so they didn't get 24 seconds apples to apples...

The difference between the 991.1 GT3 and the 991.2 GT3 was 12.3 seconds with a 25 HP bump. That was mostly attributed to the aero and track changes (Portions of the track were resurfaced).
The 718 GT4 is getting approximately 40 HP more and should be at least around 15 seconds faster than the 981 GT4. That would make it as fast as the older GT3 and almost as fast as the 991 GTS.

Also, if the 718 GTS is expected to be a little faster than the 981 GT4 like the 991.2 GTS was a little faster than the 991.1 GT3, the new 718 GT4 would be similarly around 12-13 seconds faster than the 718 GTS.

Not sure if porsche would let all this happen though.

Some info for you guys, if you want. Of course this is still a chit chat-thing, but...

a) When getting on the list for a beefy deposit, I got to know more. The document my main central-european dealer got from Germany confirms what Whoopsy said, so 420 M/T only 4.0 car to be delivered next summer (the first one). PTS as ever, will be more difficult to order and the prices vary. No one, literally no one doubts about this being a N/A. Forget the turbo. Some people still think it could be the new GT3 engine, but its kind of a mystery, as the Carrera S engine makes more sense. Still, everybody looking forward and the waitlist is already closed, demand was extremely strong...newcomers, owners of 981 GT4, just everyone seemed to want one. New politics are gonna be applied and flippers eliminated.

b) Absolutely no idea whether GT4RS exists or will be brought into existence. Either way, one is clear the said - it would be only for the realest out there and the production number would be something to make 911R blush.

c) The video posted above where we "see" (distorted) a screaming, obviously-manual test mule is a 911 Speedster, unfortunately. You can hear the "last 1000rpm" madness of the 991.2 GT3 engine.

d) The proper video is, of course, the visibly GT4 mule where the driver overcooks the corner without PSM.

Lets keep our eyes open and look forward together!

Your dealer got a memo with displacement and power listed?

Last I’ve heard directly from someone above my dealer/GM was hot rodded 3.8. Not a 4.0

But who knows really...?

We already know the engine is going to be normally aspirated 3.8 or 4.0L with some hot rod parts making 420hp.

The question now is if it will go turbo in the next generation 3 years from now. Will the 718 GT4 be the last normally aspirated Cayman GT car?

I’d agree it’s very likely the last more easily available GT car.

I could see a special limited edition send off of the 991 or even a “enthusiast” or “touring” Gt3 with NA.

Any info on whether the GT4 will be offered with PDK? I've heard that it'll be manual only at first and then they'll off a PDK option (similar to what they did with the Touring option for the GT3).

Interesting concept - seems very late to the party given (at least where I live) Caymans are used extensively in Targa campaigns, the biggest issues are tires and cages. PDK is a significant advantage - therefore strong preference for GTS (718/981).

The cleaning lady said "it looks like a 3.8L", but a 4.0L would also look the same in fairness. We need to see the internals to know for sure.
My cleaning lady cleans the Flacht washrooms and dosnt have access to the engineering room where engine specs are scattered about...

Does your cleaning lady like Sour Patch Kids too?!

I can't bite my tongue any longer nor can i withhold this information; i used to love Patron but I'm told that Don Julio 1942 is pretty epic!

Sorry for the delay...i'm old school and don't think it appropriate sometimes to talk about booze on public forums but i couldn't hold it in any longer! Now back to our regularly scheduled popcorn eating.
