I was eyeing the GMG roll hoop, as the horizontal harness anchor bar is purposely higher to clear the tunnel. But is that horizontal bar then too high for correct/safe strap angle? I'm 6'2" and think it should be ok, but would like to confirm.

The short answer to your question is "yes". The crossbar on a roll bar with that configuration will place the shoulder straps far too high relative to the driver's shoulders. The straps should be between 0 degrees (parallel to the ground) -- this is ideal -- and -20 degrees down. Never angled upward.

Also, based on our experience, anchoring the main hoop to the floor can limit the front-to-back travel of the LWB seat. It was for these reasons that we designed the CMS bar the way we did. The added support of the diagonals on the main hoop, use of heavier-gauge 4130 CrMo, and shorter main hoop (it doesn't have to go all the way to the floor pan) all add up to more rigidity, lighter weight, and more strength in every direction.

You can check the CMS 981 roll bar out for comparison at http://competitionmotorsport.com/cms...81-cayman-all/.

Also, we don't charge extra for custom powder coating and have matched every 981 color. We also offer pre-cut interior trim pieces so you don't have to fiddle with templates or destroy your original trim (makes it simple to take the car back to stock if/when you need to).

Default Thanks for the input!

I decided on a CMS setup and will have it this weekend for the PCA DE event at Road Atlanta.

I went with CMS because:
  • Heavy duty bar is thicker than the others I shopped.
  • Trim kit for a neat appearance.
  • Optional cross bar for extra strength and full compliance.
  • Great support for my mechanic. Installation is by Hans Krajc at Superior Autohaus in Alpharetta. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

Thanks very much for the compliment, we're glad you had a great experience all around. We really enjoyed working with Hans and the people at Superior Autohaus! From our conversations with them, they really know their stuff!
