Check out Pro-clip. Mounts to the side of the center console and the phone is at the same inclination as the top of the console. The base is designed for the car, the top is specific to your phone. This is the best system I've seen.

If anyone wants one of these, PM me. I have mine that I ran in my GT3 (both the base which is the same between the GT3 / GT4 and the iPhone mount for non-plus-size iPhones in a case).

I just leave mine in my pocket, not sure what's so difficult about that.

"But but but: You're without constant access to your iPhone every waking moment of the day? How do you live?"

You must be over 35, like me. Below that, not sure how half the population can figure out how to walk to the corner (do people still walk?), nor take a p*ss without an iPhone to show them the way.

+1 on the Kenu. Minimalistic but still grips well. I like the magnetic vent mounts too but sometimes the phone can come loose on twisty roads.

In my experience almost all of them suck - they're too loose, or fall off etc. Scosche is one of the brands that work really well. No way I can get that phone loose while driving.
