18" or 19" rims on GT4
#271
I'm thinking of trying the OZ wheels at the tire rack with Hoosier R7. I know it's not ideal but the 10" rear should fit 295 R7s (either 30 or 35 series) and even though a 265 should technically go on at least a 9" rim, I'm pretty sure it could be stuffed on one of those 8.5" fronts. Ideal? No, but probably pretty decent until better options come along. Anyone try this yet?

Just got my car back from Finspeed this afternoon. They got the measurements they needed to start working on wheel options for GT4 owners and they liked what they saw. I'll let them go into more detail if they choose, but more options should be forthcoming to those who can wait a bit. I also got to see several examples of their various designs, finishes, and technical options. They make a sweet product!

Once finspeed hopefully offers 18's, I would still run 245/275-40's nittos without hesitation, unless even more ideal sizes were available. Paying $2200/set of track tires is nuts if u ask me. But I'm cheap so.....

MVEZ, what about Hoosiers? As much as I would like to run more tire up front, I suppose a "safe" setup would be 235/35/19 and 295/35/19.

Hmmmmm, yes but those were 20x8.5 wheels, ET 50 and the OZ Leggera is 19x8.5 ET53. I would also assume if running Hoosiers that camber would be around -3F and he was running -2.

James, two questions.
1) Did you try both the 295/35/19 and 295/30/19 and find one to be better?
2) Where did you find a 245/35/19? I cannot find one for sale anywhere.

Well, it is unclear to me. James at GMG, MVEZ, and Mooty were all proposing the 295/35/19 (see posts 100, 135, and 137) but then I noted that James actually drove at the track on 245/35/19 and 295/30/19 and said it was great.

In James' first post, he did state: "Hoosier R7 in 235/35-19, and 295/35-19" but I wonder if he ever actually used that combo on track.
Also still curious where you get the 245/35/19. Seems like that might be a safer bet than the 265/35/19.

I would think it being a GT car, the gizmos/ABS will allow for such sizes. Also a bit more rake will free up the car, and you can always adjust ride height. The factory race car has more rake as well based on its stock tire size.
Everybody is too focused on tire size. You have so many other adjustments at your disposal to get the car to drive to ur liking.
For mid engine cars I want the rear as progressive as it can be, more aspect ratio helps with this.
245-40-18 and 275-40-18 with some rake on 987 is so much fun and uber-neutral. No reason similar setup can't work on 981 gt4, IMO.

Anyone at Chin/Cota this weekend? I think I'm in garage 17 if you want to see the wheel fitment.

Finspeed is in the middle of opening up a facility at CotA and is currently working out of a location that will eventually become just engineering rather than engineering and production, so that might be responsible for some delayed responses. I got quick replies when I emailed Daniel, though granted I was offering my GT4 for him to borrow. Try following up to your earlier email if you haven't already?
