wouldn't mind going down the 19" path, anyone want to depart with some wheels out there
#858
We should book an ARDC day and get a few of us together for some fun. Eastern Creek is much closer and more convenient than Wakefield.

I'll probably do the next day on the 20th sept as well

Actually Charlie when you have the 19's on can you let me know if the car scrapes a lot more or not, 19's could be a nightmare for me and my driveway

The 19s will mean about 15mm less clearance which is not good for me either, the car scrapes in my driveway as it is, luckily I have a double entrance to go in on an angle and it just makes it.
Will get the wheels on tonight or tomorrow morning to test fit and will post a pic of them on.

Are you guys not increasing sidewall height with the downsized wheels? Surely diameter would remain similar if you did?

Front goes from 245/35/20 to 235/35/19. Ideally I would have gone 245/35/19 up front but wasn't sure if they would fit with the new rims and they didn't have stock. So the front you almost have the same amount of rubber but less rim, so lose just about 15-16mm of road clearance up front.
In saying that all tyres vary in size. I just put new rubber on the front of my OEM 20s so will measure the true diameter of both OEM front and rears and Trofeo R in 19s.

Going from 20 to 19 the tire diameter is smaller. I have found the car is lowered a bit (helpful) and the FD ratio is about 5% higher thus lower gearing which also helps in the highly-geared GT4. You can just look up the tyre charts and work out where you are or where you're going to be. 19's work for me on the track and 20's on the road..

Ill see you out there, I'm also in the afternoon session. trying out the Koyas and the 19's

2 reasons:-
1) Cayman has always been under tyred to slow it down..I had huge success with my old "R" going up massively in tyre sizes F&R - 245/255 & 295 - Huge grip increase and lap times tumbled..more confidence equalled more speed.
2) The Koyas push the front tracks out quite a bit compared to rears - which will increase the front grip we all seek. Plus I run a teenie tiny bit of toe out which as cured understeer but affected rear balance the..trial and error.

Just be careful reducing the front footprint...understeer will be more present as you push grip rearward
Sizes are difficult. The tyre size remains the same but you lose the diameter in rim size. Go from a 295/30/20 to 295/30/19, same amount of rubber but less rim. So lose 12.5mm in road clearance.

That's exactly why I wanted to go 245s up front, but they were out of stock of them and I wasn't sure of fitment so I stuck with the 235s for now.
What size you running on the front of your Koyas? 245? 19x8.5 ET45?
I test fitted the wheels last night, haven't driven it yet, will take it out today and see how it feels and if any rubbing issues.

Yes I have the same wheels, sizes and offsets but mine are black..
Booked in for the 24th, keen to see how these wheels and tyres go, we will be in the same group...be gentle on me please.
I think I stole last 245 in the country...sorry.

I am guessing you guys are going to the 24th August / Experienced Session (1pm-5pm)?
