High Volume Dealer in So Cal, who will remain nameless until car in driveway. I'm skeptical, hence the reason for finally joining RL, but they are ready to do a built sheet and take a deposit.

I wouldn't want to pay a premium for a new GT4 because I enter the deal upside down and then have to hope values stay flat or go up. But it comes down to what's "worth it" to you. If a NEW car does it for you, maybe it is. If a few miles don't bother you, I'd look for a used GT4.

There are too many questions that cannot be answered when it comes to future GT4 values. So all you can do is look at key factors, such as:

-Demand
-Supply (if 2300-2500 to NA, probably 5000-6000 total production)
-Reliability (esp depending on how Porsche addresses third-gear issue, etc.)
-718 GT4 engine/price (flat four turbo, or GT3 engine + $$,$$$?)
-718 GT4 transmission
-991-2 GT3 with MT
-991-1 GT3 reliability, values
-997 GT3/RS values
-GT4's value proposition vs. other choices in segment

We are just getting into what will probably be the most interesting period re: 981-1 GT4 values. Will they go up? Go down? Stay flat? No one knows. I think the best plan is to find a GT4 and enjoy it. If values go up, great. If they hold, great. If they slide (from what was a bargain to begin with), you still got good value/utility.

Only one thing is a constant: In any scenario, the more miles you put on a GT4, the more value you get. I can't think of a car enthusiast I've met who said, "Gee, I wish I didn't spend so much time enjoying my Porsche."

Ahhh either Beverly Hills or Auto Gallery...both in the top 5 of my stealership list. I wouldn't buy a soda from either of those two vampires.

Beverly Hills was advertising two at astronomically high markups last time I looked.

How about starting a database for transmission failures. Date of manufacture , Miles , number of track days/ miles and any other relevant information that would help to see if it's an isolated part run. I think it would be useful. Thanks carl

Excellent advice.

Haven't heard of a configurable GT4 in quite some time.

Thumbs up

Most helpful, Stout, what a comprehensive reply. Got me thinking about a few other tangents I hadn't considered. I'm not set on a new build (if I can even find one) but the mark-up folks are seeking in secondary are crazy beyond covering sales tax costs so I figure for the same outlay, go new. Dealer is saying an announcement of more GT4 allocation is pending, you could be the first in line by placing a deposit. Why the hell not? (Sorry if this isn't showing up in correct thread, new Rennlist user.)

They are done building GT4s, it's even off the Porsche website configurator. Trust those stealers as far as you can throw them.

According to the dealer here they're required to advertise every car they get even ones that are sold, so if a GT4 arrived that is waiting for the owner to take delivery, you'd still see it on their website and auto trader as for sale new @ msrp. They tell me this is mandated by Porsche.

Delivered... 18 still for sale in Germany. (this number was much lower 3 months ago) As far as I know allocations were stopped a long time ago. Most ordered by 2nd tier dealers and now for sale near list... unless PCCB.. then crazy high.
