Default European delivered car vs. USA car stance

Not sure if this is in the proper place. My question: I had a 1986 911 which was built for and originally sold in the USA market. Loved the stance/rake of that car - slightly lower in the front. Sold it and later bought a 1987 which was delivered to the original purchaser in Germany. It appears the Germany-delivered car has a lower stance than the 1986 USA delivered car. It is just lower to the ground all the way around and does not have the stance/rake I loved in the 1986 car. Is it correct that back then the USA cars were setup differently (ground clearance, etc.) than the cars delivered in Europe? If so, how so? What was the difference?
