Torn -- Current Gen Boxster/S OR 997 911 Cab
Hey guys. Been gone for a long time but on the brink of rejoining the club. Need your opinions on going for a Boxster/S or a 911.
Back in 2010 I got my first taste of a Porsche with a 2000 Boxster base. I loved the car but always felt it was short on power. Next in 2013, I bought a 2006 Boxster S. Dabbled with the idea of a 911 but found the interior of the 2006 Boxster felt more refined so i bought the Boxster S and drove for a few years.
Now i'm considering my 3rd Porsche. Torn between a current gen Boxster S or an older 997 911 Cab (2005-2009). My budget is around 40k but willing to stretch to mid-high 40's for something exceptional.
The 2006 Boxster burned me pretty bad on depreciation which is what makes me hesitant on a Boxster again.
Would appreciate your opinions. This would be my 2nd car and driven 3-5k miles per year.
I recently drove a boxster base 2013 and absolutely loved it. It was short on power which is why i'm leaning towards the S. I have not driven a 997 911 yet (can't find one locally to drive in Raleigh NC). I drove a 996 and from what i recall, it was very nice ride.
Boxster S Pro's: I absolutely love the way it looks (both in and out), modern and current styling, mid engine handling, newer car and likely less issues or repairs. Love, love the interior. That intake sound behind your ears sounds great.
Boxster S Con's: Depreciation. Wife says it's not a real Porsche . High price, likely high 40's or low 50's for a nice one.
911 Pro's: Georgeous classic 911 outside looks. More powerful/faster. May not depreciate as quickly. Lower price of entry. $35k-$45k nets nice examples.
911 Con's: Dated interior, likely face some repairs (possibly costly), generally older car near 10 years of age.

I can't speak to a Boxster, but I recently purchased a 2006 C2S and I love this car. Only had 27K mi and fully loaded with every option. Definitely within your price range.
Go 911S and never look back.

Thanks J_D. The more i think about it i'm going for a 911S, or 911 base if 2009 or newer since the 2009's are only 10hp shy of a 2006-2007 911 S. Any thoughts on red? i like it but fear it will hurt me on resale

I was also torn between a 2014-2015 Boxster or an older 911, also in those years. All those cons you had for the 911, especially the outdated interior, pushed me to buy my second Porsche (had a 73 914), 2014 Boxster.
