Default 944 Project car...should I pull the trigger?

Hey everyone, new to the forum. Thinking abouting buying a 1984 944 as a project car for my son and I. I've done a lot of homework but wanted to get your take.

I'm buying the car cheap (~$1600) but its a total fix er upper. Thrashed insides, cracked dash, carpet, broken door handles and panels, etc. Engine seems clean with about 160,000 miles on it. Little rust. Needs new tires and paint. I don't mind doing the work but do you all think its a money pit? Should I just wait for a better conitioned version to popup in the classifieds?

I'm afraid if i do that, i wont tear into the guts of the car and my son wont learn much. Just want a clean, fun weekend car. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like you posted a few months ago. Did you end up getting your resto-rig? Sounds like a great segue into the world of club racing and SCCA!

Cheers,
