Default What car lift should I get for my personal garage?

Just wanted to get an idea on car lifts. I have 2 garages, a 2 car and a 1 car. I was thinking of putting a lift in the 1 car garage to be able to make room for more toys. I don't want to add anything to the 2 car garage as I store a lot of house junk in there and wouldn't be able to fit it.

Was there a particular brand that everyone likes the most? I'm looking for reliability. Also looking for 4 legs on the lift. I'm planning to store a BMW M3 up top (track car) and my GT2 on the bottom. I'm also going to have to have my garage door tracks elevated to make room. My ceiling is high enough though

Thanks

Funny- I was just planning on posting the same question. You beat me to it.
May get more response on one of the car threads but let's see.

Several posts about this elsewhere. If you're somewhat handy, this can be a DIY job with an Atlas lift bought from several distributors around the country. I bought mine from Greg Smith in DE. Took about 6 hours to assemble by myself with occasional help from the kids for the heavy pieces. Or have a BendPak or any of the other "big names" installed by a local place for roughly double the cost. Most are made in China these days. The web sites have ceiling height calculators, as you need to take into account the car heights, thickness of drive on ramp, clearance for garage door and opener and the height of the "locking points" of the lift. Changing the radius of garage door track to be right under ceiling and a jack shaft opener are nice, especially if ceiling height is limited.

FWIW Might want to think twice about keeping the nice car on bottom, especially if the track car has any leaks at all. It's more work moving cars around to take the GT2 out for a spin, but imagine how pissed you'd be to find paint damage from a small brake fluid drip that you didn't know you had.

Great thanks for the info. I didn't even think about putting the GT2 in top. That was a GREAT point

We like to recommend the QuickJack - it's extremely well built and comes in a variety of weight limits. Link below!

That'd be one low profile car to park under a QuickJack

I have a Quality Q4P07. Very happy with it. I put a GT4 up top and a 911 TTS below, plenty of room with a 10' ceiling. http://www.qualitylifts.com/car-lifts.shtml

Did you get one, if so, what did you go for? Presumably not the QuickJack...

If you do get a lift, BOLT IT DOWN. A friend of mine had a lift collapse a month or so ago and did some major damage. It could have been avoided if he bolted it down.

Everybody's needs are different. We are looking to upgrade our Florida house. Wifey wants what she wants and I want a screened and covered lanai facing North to East for cool evenings and cookouts. And i want a 3 car garage. When we get one, I'm wanting to add a one post lift. No drilling or foundation required
