Default refinishing undertray plastic

I have a 968 coupe, and the undertray plastic has some medium-deep scratches. How has anyone refinished the polyurethane to remove scratches? I was thinking just wet sanding with 120, then 400, etc. and then vinyl/rubber protectant. I'm not sure that sanding will get plastic smooth enough, and wondered if there were other techniques.

Hmm, sanding enough material to "remove" the gouge means creating a thin spot in the plastic. By under tray, do you mean the panel below the car? If so, I might just leave it as is for future scratches.

^ I was thinking that as well. Why fix it unless it is a show car? In that case, just buy a new under tray.
