PayPal for Car sale
I put my '93 968 up for sale. A prospective buyer wants to pay via PayPal.
I never heard of buying a car through PayPal.. I'm a bit leary of this.
Has anyone every accepted payment for a car through PayPal? Is this a scam?

100% scam... check the paypal terms.

Paying for a car IS NOT COVERED for protection. It will bounce and by then the car will be long gone.

here is another ( though not as bad as car thief)
another guy texts me and claims he is interested in buying the car, as long as I follow the link he provided to mobilefacts com and buy a history report.
I didn't follow his link, but tried looking up mobilefacts.com, and it doesn't exist.. so it's a spoofed url. For what purpose I do not know

I had the exact same basic email when I was selling a Tahoe last year. Same base name and everything. I'm sure it said the phones don't work reliably and they want it for their dad or some other BS. Aside from the terrible English, mine came as a group text to a bunch of other people selling vehicles. Got the text right after posting an Auto Trader ad.

Aside from the terrible English, mine came as a group text to a bunch of other people selling vehicles. Got the text right after posting an Auto Trader ad.
Also within 24 hours of posting my ad on AutoTrader... here's the email;
Do you have the extra keys, Do you have the spare tire, Where did you
get your car serviced, Have you ever had any transmission repairs and
Is there any rust on the vehicle? I'm ready to pay your asking price
but not cash in person because I am serving in the US army and
currently been deploy to Fort Huachuca Military Base , Arizona and
calls are restricted at the moment and my only quickest payment option
is PayPal, its safe fast and secure and i will be responsible for the
PayPal transaction charges so you can get your expected amount. If you
don't have an account with PayPal, its pretty easy to open one, Just
log onto www . paypal . com and sign up. I hope we can make the
purchase as fast as possible? As I am buying the vehicle for my dad
and I'm very sure he will love this vehicle, his a mechanic and a
handy man, so if there is anything that need to be fixed in it just
let me know he will handle it. I have a mover that will come for the
pick up once payment clears in your account and he will handle the
title for me.I would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if
available) too since i won't be able to see this in person. You may
receive an email like this from other people because i told my
colleagues and team mate to help me lookout for the vehicle as
well,,so deal with me directly .

That's definitely a scam, but I just want to add that PayPal can be ok if both parties are legit and honest. It's usually pretty easy to spot a scammer based on the way they talk and questions they ask, especially since most of them seem to use the same "script". I bought my 951 via PayPal because I was many states away. After the seller and I had been talking for days with me asking plenty of questions about the car, I asked if he'd accept escrow.com or paypal. He must've trusted me at that point and was good with PayPal. Their fee is 2.9% + 30¢ so I included enough extra that after fees, he received the agreed upon price. I then sent a car carrier to pick it up and everything went great. With that being said, I wouldn't accept PayPal if I was selling a car because it is risky. Like minthral said, there's no buyer/seller protection for vehicle transactions.
