what about going from 997.2 to 992? I drove a 2013 boxster and it was rather bland feeling, especially PDK settings in all modes, you don't mention transmission feel or ratios?

Not quite sure what the point of that article is. "From a Coach's Perspective" both 991 and 992 would be more than enough car for the job.
