Default OT: Trump officials weigh 25 percent tax on imported cars

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/trump-officials-weigh-25-percent-tax-on-imported-cars-in-a-bid-to-force-concessions-in-nafta-trade-talks/2018/05/23/76e72172-5eca-11e8-b2b8-08a538d9dbd6_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.7b88752c7643

I understand there has already been a discussion on this but just saw another news on it.

If this passes, does that mean I will have to pay 25% ADM on my incoming GT3 on Nov?

O god.....

Take a chill pill and enjoy your GT3--there will be no 25% tax.
Didn't mean to bring politics. Just about 25% tariff scared the hack out of me. That makes 170k car to 200k+ car.

As it should. If the tax is imposed on sport cars I’ll cancel my order. Fortunately, Trump reverses himself as often as he lies. So the Texan Trumpite May have a point. Unless Fox News instructs him to do otherwise.

Lol. Now if extended leather were to be discontinued, there would be mass demonstrations at PCNA.

You need to leave the politics out of it, not the OP. Really

I heard that trump might pass the law before midterm election (Nov 7th 2018). Worst comes to worst, will this affect people taking delivery of the car in CY 2018?

Well if you guys pay 25%, ROW won't feel so ripped off already 20-30% tax on cars.. .. Welcome to the club. Thing is, more generally, I think we will see increasing tariffs, taxes and anything else being put on personal vehicles. And to reference another recent topic, there is a younger generation coming along that doesn't car that much if cars are taxed more or not as they aren't that fussed about them...

Does anybody remember the luxury boat/yacht tax that was supposed to bring in so much money? There were a lot of boat builders around here when that happened. Most of them went belly up.

25% exists already on all steel imported; 10% on all aluminum. besides a couple of exempt countries: Can, Mex, EU, Braz, Korea

This will have a bigger impact on economy than a proposed car tax. Bottom line, is a potential trade war and already an unnecessary increase on manufacturing products made w/ the aforementioned raw materials.

Ok. I'm Canadian living in US. So not really familiar with how politics work in US.

But main question:

1) Can trump impose tariff on cars without agreement from senates (or sth)

2) Can it take effect immediately?

3) Will it affect my Nov 30th car delivery ????? (Most important question )
