Default Röhrl says modern cars too fast for the 'Ring

I don't think for a second that Röhrl's comments are going to change anything, but I do find it interesting that someone of such legendary skill is saying modern cars are too fast for the 'Ring... What do you think about it his thoughts? Check out the post on the HP for more info.

I do think it'd bee cool if there was some kind of sanctioning body for 'Ring times, if it's going to remain a standard metric.

I'm not 100% how to explain this, but I do see his point. An attempt to explain what I think could be that the car's abilities are beginning to surpass our own. Perhaps they are getting, dare I say, too fast?

Well, let's be real here, super sports cars and super cars have exceeded their intended audiences skill level for quite some time now. Yes, there will always be owners who are dedicated and talented enough to drive to their cars full potential but I'd be willing to bet that there are far more owners who are either lacking the confidence and or the skill to take their $250k - $2MM car to it's absolute limits.

I do see Walter's point though. These cars are achieving race car speeds (most the time being MUCH faster in raw acceleration) with only a fraction of the downforce and safety on a track where making a mistake at those speeds = catastrophic crash. That said though, from Porsche's perspective if there are still driver's willing to hop in the seat and set those kind of times then why stop? As long as both the driver and the company can accept the risks and consequences then I say lets keep going!!
