Apparently valved exhaust are illegal even if it’s oem equipment.

”Pearson points to Sect. 75 (1) of Ontario's Highway Traffic Act, which covers mufflers. It requires every vehicle to have "a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise."

So, what defines "excessive or unusual"?

"It's up to the police officer's discretion whether they feel it's an excessive or unusual noise for a motor vehicle," he said. "There is no decibel level in the Highway Traffic Act."”


”Pearson said just because an exhaust system came with a stock diverter, that doesn't absolve the owner from ensuring the car complies with the law.

"Everything in law comes down to wording," he said. "It only becomes illegal once you drive that vehicle on the highway. Just because you can purchase it, doesn't mean it should be allowed on the road."”
