I've been running Nankang CRS which are excellent overall but wanted to give a proper R comp a shot so I got a set of 305/265 R8 for my 4RS track car. I just got them mounted a couple of weeks ago and was out of town last week but noticed when I went to put them on the car that one of the rears has some sort of visible deformity or damage on the sidewall. It looks to me like how dry rot presents on older tires sometimes but it's a late 2025 build and at least since I've had the thing it's never been in the cold or the hot, just garaged. Never driven, in fact, the car has not even been lowered from the quickjack to the ground with them on.

Tire Rack is deflecting blame and saying this is underinflation damage or from running it while flat, which I know is not the case because the thing hasn't even been on the ground static much less while rolling. I'm going to push this until it gets resolved, and am very frustrated that the largest tire dealer in the country is behaving like that on a $900 tire, but has anyone ever seen damage like this on a R8 or R7 or other track focused tire? The only thing I can come up with is maybe it did sustain damage under load during their own heat cycling procedure that I paid for, which I know involves mounting to a tire and running up to 180 degrees or so on a high speed roller. Weird issue.

At Road America with the Chicago PCA last weekend for RADE (Road America Drivers Ed) and was lucky enough to spend 2 days with Matt and Tom from Suspension Secrets. Had a chance to see some of his parts, talk about their approach, and discuss some of the cool upcoming projects. These guys are legit. Give them a look. They are likely coming back as the US is a large market for them. Hopefully we see them back at Road America for my chapters TRAC in September.

My car is a 2005 997.1S that has basically become a track car (but not a race car) over the last five years. I drive HPDE in PCA White group. I seem to have plateaued and not made it into Black yet. For calibration, my PB at my home track – Summit Point - is 1:24.4. 2:13 at VIR and WGI.

I have spent a good bit of money and time over the last 2-3 years trying to reduce my oil temps on track. On certain tracks on warm days I would reach 265+F; if needed, I would head in. My goal is to get closer to 240F. I have done just about everything that has been recommended and feasible. The list is fairly long.

One aspect I think I’ve not properly explored is my center radiator, which is an OEM version installed back in 2018. It seems that there is no real air venting through that area, leading me to wonder if it actually ends up heating the coolant since the outgoing air is somewhat trapped. I have cut some vents in the bottom of the front bumper cover and put spacers under the trailing lower edge, but I feel this is an area that is not really working.

After talking with paddock folks and looking around this forum, I have decided to opt for a GT3 front bumper and accompanying GT3 center radiator (1-1/2 times normal size). This approach would incorporate ducting that allows air to pass through the center radiator and vent upwards, through the “smile”. A much fuller airflow and it provides a bit of downforce. While I am at it, I think I would have a front splitter added (an attached part that I could remove), which would of course add more downforce. My track shop has done this enough and has a trusted provider that assures a proper fit to my car. I should also note that I banged up the lower part of the front bumper in the paddock a couple months ago so there is some additional motivation for doing a front bumper replacement.

Many (including my track shop owner) have said that you shouldn’t add front downforce without doing a commensurate addition in the rear, at least if you track the car. This leads to my question. My shop recommends a “race” type rear wing, but I prefer the more modest GT3 look-alike wing. I guess he doesn’t trust anything else on track but the race version. I have also communicated with Getty Design. They have a GT3 rear wing version that seems to be very well made and comes with excellent fit assurance.

Here's an example of the "race" type rear wing.
Any thoughts, particularly if you have gone through this kind of process yourself? I would appreciate any helpful advice. Thanks.

Some of you might recognize me for years of asking questions and joining discussions about aftermarket seats and keeping OEM SRS functionality on the 991 platform.

I’d wanted to do this for a long time but never really found an approach I felt good about. More recently, with help from a very knowledgeable friend, I was finally able to sort through the details and document the process.

I’ve put together a guide covering my 991.2 fixed-back bucket seat install, including transferring and retaining certain OEM SRS components, coding observations, sensor considerations, common faults, and a few lessons learned along the way.

This isn’t a crash-validated solution or a recommendation to modify factory safety systems. It’s just documentation of one owner’s experience that might help others researching a similar install.

Hopefully it saves someone a bit of time and frustration. Feedback, corrections, and additional experiences are always welcome.
