I have some pretty interesting industry news. As many of you may know Porsche uses several Bosch MG1 ECUs across their lineup of H6 engines found in the 911 and 718 platform vehicles. Tuners have been tuning the earlier 3.0T, 3.7T, and 4.0L engines for a few years now as those vehicles used a version of the ECU with less security.

However that all started to change a few years back.

Bosch updated the MG1CP007 and MG1CS047 ECUs to a new Generation 2, sometimes referred to as Hardware 80, or H80 which locked out tuners. All new keys. All new encryption. Basically, they made changes which ended up locking out tuners with few scalable solutions.

But that has all changed today.

There is now an unlock for these ECUs, including the new MG1CP994 which includes the brand new 3.6T Hybrid engine found in the single turbo GTS and the twin turbo Turbo S. This means once the ECU is unlocked, tuners can now start delivering tunes. I don't want to turn this into a commercial posts, so I will not be sharing links, but these ECUs are now unlocked meaning more tuners can start delivering tunes for these vehicles.

I just wanted to share this exciting news and I can't wait to see what everyone does with their vehicle!

2019 718 Cayman Base — Sport Chrono retrofit / Sport Plus activation help

I have a 2019 base Cayman 718 and I’m trying to get Sport Plus fully working after a Sport Chrono retrofit.

Current setup:

Launch X431

PIWIS 3

Sport Chrono clock retrofitted

Sport Plus button installed

Sport Chrono steering wheel / mode selector installed

What works:

The Sport Chrono clock can be activated in the gauge cluster menu

The steering wheel mode **** lights up on Normal

It also lights when I press the Sport button

What does not work:

Turning the steering wheel mode selector does not change modes

Sport Plus will not activate

The steering wheel ****/button controls do not respond

In the gauge cluster Sport Chrono menu, I can activate/display the clock, but none of the steering wheel **** controls work

Has anyone successfully activated full Sport Chrono / Sport Plus on a 2019 718 Cayman base after retrofit?

I’m trying to figure out if this requires:

A Porsche Sport Chrono activation/enabling code

Coding in a specific module like BKE, gateway, PCM, instrument cluster, steering wheel electronics, or PDK/DME

Climate control/AC module activation like some older retrofit threads mention

A different clockspring/steering wheel control module

Online PIWIS coding / VO change / dealer-level activation

If anyone has the exact PIWIS 3 coding path, module list, or screenshots from a factory Sport Chrono 718, I’d really appreciate the help.

Hi guys
We are just picking up a 718 s for my other half.
She wants to be able to wirelessly connect her android phone for music calls etc and the dealer has said to us that it is only currently possible with Apple play , what is the best way of us sorting this out.
Also if anyone has advice on adding a reverse camera , is factory option the best? How hard is it to add? Or can aftermarket camera be added to the porsche radio?
Thanks in advance !!

Just checking the engine isn't going to explode or something being a paranoid 996 man!

Tried a stop and restart but they didn't clear. With hindsight I maybe should have tried a battery disconnect? Anyway since "driving possible" I chose to make my way to the hotel we were staying in with only gears 2, 4 and 6 working before calling Porsche Assist. All the odd gears and reverse weren't engaging. However when the flatbed recovery arrived after three hours the gearbox fault had cleared and reverse and first (and presumably all the odd gears) worked; the engine control fault remained. In the short version of the story the Porsche dealer cleared the faults but couldn't make them repeat - given the PASM was in sport when I picked the car up a week later I think they had been trying. As best as I could ascertain from the dealer the fault was a pressure sensor going out of range and it is a complete dismantle of the transmission to change it; my own thinking is it may happen again. My supplying UK dealer is aware but couldn't offer any advice so far. I returned to Spain and the car was faultless over the 1,500 mile drive home across Spain and France, but of course there is a heap of difference between driving on Autoroutes at a constant 130km/hr and charging up mountain roads.

Has anyone else had a similar experience they would like to share?

Hey everyone, I'm looking at buying my first Porsche and first sports car ever. I've spent my whole life driving trucks (current is a 2011 Ford Raptor) so I'm really looking forward to having a car that's fast and fun to drive in a different way than off-road trucks. Here is the car i'm looking at and based on my research it seems like a good price and has a lot of the options i want, except for the manual seats. I'd really like more adjustment but hopefully i don't feel like I'm too low. Test drive on Thursday. The car only has 10k miles and is a PDK so I'm not terribly worried that it was driven hard but i do want to get a PPI and this is where i have some questions/concerns. I have reached out to several independent shops and I'm still waiting to hear back but i wanted to reach out to you guys as well.

https://www.landmarkmotors.com/detai...1ms281714.html

1. What should i insist on having checked in the PPI? I'm not too concerned with cosmetic or tire tread or paint, but more interested in suspension, motor and trans. I'd assume they check for leaks or slow leaks and such?
2. What kind of report do you get? I have a little bit of a trust issue when i pay for things i have no way of verifying. I'm sure its rare but the shop could basically do nothing and create a report and i'd have no way of knowing until i get it home and start pulling panels or jack it up and roll around underneath. Do shops generally let you come out there and put eyes on it when its on the lift or with the engine cover or panels off?
3. In regards to the manual seats. Is it possible to raise them if needed or add spacers underneath or replace them with electric seats? i saw a post on here with someone who added adjustable seats but it wasn't complete and i don't think he actually finished the post or had a conclusion. Curious if its worth the time/money.
4. Anything else i should look for? Final price is 115K so i want to be sure about it and know as much as i can before dropping that kind of money on something thats just for fun.

cheers

The surprise was today: we did a 250 mile tour in the mountains north of Lake Tahoe. Returned home: 31.8 MPG for the day!

718S Did I Hit The Sweet Spot?

I have a 718S Boxster Stick Shift. I'm looking for a second car with a PDK for the months of the year that my community has heavy traffic. I have been test driving GT4RS, 911 Base, 911S, etc. All great cars in their own right. I was ready to order a 911 Carrera S this week because my dealer told me she had an allocation. I test drove it and I was impressed but I did not order it because I was told an aerokit is not available for the rest of 2026. When I would come home from all these test drives I would think nothing so far has beat my 718S in enjoyment. Here is why I feel I think I may have hit my sweet spot.

1. Size and handling. the 718S is perfect size for me. The cabin feels like it wraps around me where the 911 felt wider inside. The steering is immediate. Now I'm a small guy. A very tall or large person might feel differently. I like that our cars may be under 3000 pounds.

2. Engagement. Now part of this is my stick shift but it feels great to have response right away from 0-5000 rpms. Now I know our friends with the GT4RS must feel great from 5000 rpms to 9000 rpms but my roads have too much traffic for me to get to those high RPMS. I also have hearing problems so I'm better off not getting to 8000 rpms despite the GT4RS sounding cool.

3. Smiles. I think there is a place for base owners. The base fits a lot of people well and is a great car. There is also a place for GT owners. If I was on a track I would want a GT. For me the sweet spot for normal driving on roads with a bunch of other people is the S version. It has a lot of get up and go but the ride is smooth. Its not hard on my body. The stick shift makes me feel like Dale Earnhardt. This is not to put down anyone else's cars. I think we all have great cars, Cars are about fit and personal preferences. The 718S has been my sweet spot.

Is this crap safe for our cars?
