NE Porsche Meet - Aug. 1st 2004
6SpeedOnline Hawk’s Nest Porsche Meet – Sunday, August 1, 2004
MARK YOUR CALENDERS!!
After the GIANT success of the Bannerman Castle – Hooter’s Meet in April, despite the rainy weather, your illustrious organizers, Ken (KPV) and I, decided to try and out-do ourselves. We believe this meet’s venue will do just that!
So, what do we have planned? Fabulous, fabulous and more fabulous driving!!
ITINERARY
8:00 AM - 9:00 AM
Our meet will assemble at High Point State Park. For those that don’t know, this is the highest elevation in New Jersey and it is located at the highest latitude in the State as well. Here is a link to the park for those that like some background information:
http://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandf...oint.html#high
The start of the Meet will be at the parking lot at the base of the monument.
Directions to get there:
From the South:
Follow Route 23 North to High Point State Park and turn right into park at the top of the mountain. Follow signs to the monument.
From the North:
Follow Route 84 to Exit 1 in New York State. Follow signs for Route 23 South. Follow Route 23 South to High Point State Park and turn left into park at the top of mountain.
10:00 AM
From the Park we will make our way to what is called the Hawk’s Nest. This stretch of road is where numerous vehicle-related television commercials (such as for BMW) were filmed. These are the kind of roads that were made specifically for our cars!
Our drive will bring us through some very scenic areas of New York State along the northern part of the Delaware River. There is an interesting mix of curved, straight, and scenic roadways.
The drive will return southward near the banks of Lake Wallenpaupack in Pennsylvania.

http://www.pplweb.com/community/envi...pack/index.htm
Most of the roads we will be driving on are single lane with many curves. After passing the lake, we will follow Route 84 for approximately 10-15 miles before we exit to arrive at Laurel Ridge Restaurant. This should allow some of us to "stretch our legs" as the saying goes.......
2:00 PM
We will stop for a mid-afternoon meal at the Laurel Ridge Restaurant near the end of the route.
Their mission statement:
Fine food, atmosphere and excellent service are the three most important aspects of a great restaurant. At Laurel Ridge, we will consistently impress you with our spectacular fare and top notch service, as well as make your family feel like a part of our "family." Our staff will always go the extra mile to ensure our complete satisfaction. Let us make your affair a memory to last a lifetime.
We will have the entire restaurant to ourselves with a cash bar and appetizers followed by dinner in the dining room.
The restaurant is located just off Route 84 in Pennsylvania making it easy for the northerners to continue home after eating. The southerners will continue south a little further and culminate in Shroudsburg, PA at Route 80.

Maybe I am just cranky tonight, but is that the most obnoxious post we've seen on the 968 forum? I don't mind a post about the get together, but the gigantic red announcement, and subsequent bandwidth killing fonts and pictures scream "spam" to me.
Drop in, introduce yourself and tell us about your party, I am fine with that. Just don't scream at us. Like I said, tho, maybe I am just cranky...
Regards,

Scott, please don't be put off. I suggested to Michele she cross post this here, as I attended the previous meet and it was fantastic. (Ricardo came as well). These meets must be the best organized and detailed events I've ever attended-the organizers meet you at the starting location, group you with like minded drivers, assign a point and rear guard driver for each group so people don't get left behind at red lights, etc etc.
We had close to 60 cars last time, and it was dark, rainy, and cold-with nicer weather I could see over 100 cars easy-from 944's to killer modded 996s. And the rear engined group wasn't snotty, they came around to talk to all.
This is a big step over the usual informal 'let get together for hot dogs in a parking lot' thing we see here-not that anything is wrong with those either, I'm always attending those too-just that someone else here is doing all the work.

I didn't mean to come across in a bad way, just trying to get the meet the attention it deserves.. As Damian has said, there is a GREAT deal of effort put into these meets by Ken and myself..
We appreciate all Porsches' and get many types to our meet...

Porsche Babe, I look forward to meeting you and other fellow members. If all goes well, I would like to be in the fastest group with other twinturbo's. It all depends if my car will be back by then.

Well, if its okay with Raj and Damian, then you must be cool (and I was having a bad night when I posted that, so please accept my apologies!). Good luck with your event, and I am sorry its so far away, or I'd be there too.
Best of luck!
