Default 5th Anniversay Phil-a-Frunk

=start

We will once again unite, hopefully without the rain this year, with WMMR’s “Camp Out For Hunger”(link is external) to help fill the food banks of the Delaware Valley in order to feed the million or more people in our region who go hungry every day. Our club members are fortunate enough to own one of the finest production vehicles in the world -Porsche, yet there are many around us that are not so fortunate. There are many around us that couldn’t even fathom paying to fill up our tanks with gas because they can’t even fill up on food.

Last year's Riesentoter members raised a whopping 84,719 pounds of food and was the 4th largest donors for Philabundance(link is external) in a 3 mile caravan featuring 188 Porsches and averaged 106 pounds of food per Porsche beating the Jeep club by, lets just say a lot. This year I expect to be even stiffer competition from the four-wheelers of the Delaware Valley. So let's step up to the plate as we did last year. With our Riesentöter Family and the help of all our area Porsche dealers (Bucks, Conshohocken, Lehigh and Porsche of the Main Line including out of the region Delaware) plus the Capital Grille in King of Prussia, Beam Suntory, and Fabspeed - we can help exceed those amounts.

Join us by filling your frunk or trunk with nonperishable items (see below) and meet us in the Capital Grille's parking lot in King of Prussia (236 Mall Blvd). Captial Grille will be giving our members a nice send off in the form of some choice appetizers. Last year it was sliders, lobster mac & cheese and hot soup.

Meet anytime after 6pm. At 7:30pm we will Caravan (this will literally be a food drive) down to Xfinity Live in Philadelphia to the Sports Complex via a FIRE ESCORT by Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company as well as snaking our way past mall traffic with the help of the Upper Merion Township Police Department (76 east, to 476 south, to 95 North, exit at Broad Street). Then, in array of generosity pop our frunks to help those less fortunate this holiday season. Please ask your family and friends to join us. We should have no problem beating last year's goals so please RSVP so we can break some more records

You can also donate money to our cause by going to clicking here(link is external) as we can turn cash into fresh meats and produce for those who need it most.

PhilaFrunk with the gift of food.

here was my follow up from last night

Phil-a-Frunk Tale of the Tape 5th Anniversary

As it goes I’m the last one home and reflecting on the day’s past event and all I can say is – I’m really proud of all of you, our members, who show up time and time again and just floor the living beejesus out of me (tears in my eyes). You guys rock. Words really can’t describe the amount of pride I feel when I see a parking lot filled to the brim with Porsches and support vehicles. Everything, and I mean everything from a 356, 914, 944’s 928’s, Cayenne’s Macan’s, Panamera’s, and of course 911’s out the ***, Caymans and Boxsters. We had it all, except for rain…not one drop, it must have been my offering of burning my old wipers soaked in some of our 60th anniversary bourbon (not much mind you, just enough to get the fire going).

Now let us get this out of the way first….when it comes to our Jeep rivalry, well we lost. I’m not sure of the exact numbers the Jeeps brought with them, but if it is anything like last year….well, I’ll chalk up a win in their column. We have to throw them a bone once in a while or they’ll, mainly Jaxon, will run and hide, never to be seen again. Competition is a good thing. It brings out the best in all of us, and the people who benefit are the ones who need it most…and again we all thank you for that.
But, but hold on to your hats, your scarves, your long-johns, because the Jeeps may have won the battle….and as the saying goes, we won the war. We will once again be within the top 5 of donors to WMMR’s Camp out for Hunger. This little old car club actually competes with the likes of national sponsors such as Subaru and Acme. This little old car club that meets at the Capital Grille and treks 29 miles in order to phill [sic] the food banks of the Delaware Valley.

Let’s do the numbers shall we. We had fewer cars than last year…168, down 9, unless they are still circling South Philly thanks to the former First Lady and her book tour. When I had my first book signing I had 60 people but oh no, Mrs. Obama booked the entire Wells Fargo Center for hers. This created a bit of havoc on the night’s activities as it was a bit of chaos as we came off of 95 onto South Street and onto a sea of cars trying to park. No matter, we eventually gathered either in the S lot or on 11 Street, then proceeded to spew our frunks.

Okay so 168 cars as I was saying, now we averaged about 140.7 pounds per car – huge improvement from the years past…cans really do help people. Doing some math, that tactile feel of doing good, we ended up with 14,914 pounds of food. WOW!. Now that is a bit down from last year, fewer cars is the reason but still. Still that’s seven and a half tons of food, trekked 29 miles to Philly in cars that have very little trunk space. Eat that Ferrari’s.

Oh and we are not done yet. Oh no, not by a long shot. Remember the war I was talking about, well we unleashed an arsenal of generosity that was truly mind-blowing, because in money donations, with matching from your club, our members tallied $16,000 in cash.
With cash in hand and the literal drop at tonight’s Camp out for Hunger, including food bought at the Acme right there in the parking lot with additional last minute funds from our members, the weight equals that of almost sixty-four 356’s, or a third of an entire blue whale, or the weight of an entire average house, or enough to feed everyone watching an Eagles game in the Linc AND everyone watching a Flyers game in the Wells Fargo Center at the same time or get this…..127,184 pounds of food. Again one hundred twenty-seven THOUSAND, one hundred eighty-four pounds of food. Let that sink in. That’s 42, 465 pounds more than last year.

That’s 63.5 tons of food from a little old car club. A lot, and I do mean a lot of people throughout our region, people you probably will never meet, thank you from the bottom of their hearts…and stomachs.

You truly are an exceptional bunch of people, coming together for the benefit of really making a difference in someone’s life. Again words cannot describe the amount of pride I feel…verklempt is such an understatement. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

And I would like specially thank the following – Capital Grille, for the use of their parking lot during the busy holiday season, the tents, the food for our members, and the food for our drive, they go far beyond any could ever ask for. The Upper Merion Township Police, shutting down mall traffic right around the peak holiday shopping time, so much fun waiving to the people at the lights as we pass. The Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company leading the way, escort via 76, 476, and 95 (wish I had this escort for my all my Flyers Game, from KOP to Wells in 34 minutes). Then all our of dealers, in alphabetical order, who brought with them cars full of food plus top notch raffle prizes, Porsche of Conshohocken, Porsche of Lehigh Valley, Porsche of the Main Line, Porsche of Warrington, and not to be left off, Porsche of Delaware. Oh and Wendy and Beth for running the raffles on a somewhat chilly evening and to our parking lot attendants with red wands in hand,

I will end the night with our motto, it’s not just the cars but the people, the people who really and truly care.

So [insert own expletive here] proud of all you,

Jeff

Jeff this year's event was superb! We made it through the confusion unscathed and were blown away by all the camaraderie. Although last minute, myself and my good friend Dave Verrecchia were able to squeeze 24 cases of canned goods in his little 986 Boxster, photos below. I exchanged an email with Dave N. about my thoughts on us spicing things up next year with some proper planning, I very much look forward to giving those Jeep fiends a run for their money in 2019

awesome pics...impressive what our little cars can hold....here's a quote from Jaxon's Jeep Club on FB

"I'm really impressed with Porsche club. How do they get that much food in those Itsy Bitsy teeny weeny automobiles?!"

there is also a few other good ones like...

" Funny that the Porsche club starts at the Capitol Grille because money, but the Jeep club starts across the street because roadworthyness/reliability."
