So we moved to the US 18 months ago and have had a nightmare finding reliable help for the house; from small jobs (painting, ding fixing, plumbing) to major rennovations (would like to price excavating the basement and extending under the yard / adding a garage from street level) the locals have been unreliable and over priced. Never had this much trouble finding good workmen in the UK - and I suspect it's partly because we dont have the social network here to ask through.

Anybody got any advice in the area? I suspect given the focus of this forum it'll have al ot of folks who prioritize quality & reliability over cost... and that's pretty much exactly where I am.
