964 DIY - aircon bracket delete
So if you've decide to remove the aircon - many benefits to make up for the loss of the 'somewhat' cool air ...
you'll be left with this aluminium bracket which attaches to the rear bumper side of the engine
and the engine carrier mount and surrounds the pulleys. In this sense it's quite crucial and can't just be removed.
PN: 964 126 126 0R per what's stamped on mine or 964 115 11 02 per PET
To detach the portion of the bracket which is the aircon compressor support requires cutting the top right potion of the support off.
To to this require no surgeon-like skill ... just a medium sized vice, a small angle grinder with a metal cutting blade, some cloth,
a pair of sturdy gloves, goggles (little bits of aluminium not suited to cornea) and a space far away from open engines
and related parts (that hate metal filings).

so clearly this is not something easily done with the engine in place so
it becomes one of those "nice to do" while the engine is out things.
The weight-loss is not major as its ali - 1.1kg - but it is right at the back
and it does free up some more space
and make the engine bay a little bit less cramped.
It also serves as a great .. stand

Good write up. One thing you missed is to grind the bracket to clear the crank pulley, so if you ever want to work on the chain housings with the engine in the car, you can remove the bracket without having to take off the crank pulley.

cheers Steen - yes that was a puzzle I faced at about 10pm on the last night ie why do they make it so the pulleys
seems to lock the brakcet piece in place - just neatness?
Then I moved hastily on though as my time in the garage was coming to an end - should have done a quick search first tho!
So it seems like a little dremel action re 3-4mm on either side would make it removable without messing with the
massive torque/special tool problem that is the pulleys. Strange .. but like cutting a path on the little bracket on shocks re the brake lines
.. seems like a common and widely applied 'edit' to the otherwise superb Porsche Way
I'll add a pic for that suggestion - thanks! Gladly wont impact on the beer stand.

I removed the AC console on both of mine, on one I used the oe RS piece that apparently is nla, but Perelet just found one in Germany
RS piece
RS installed, w/ RS single sheave pulley on one of mine
On my other one I cut the oe piece but left the bolt shoulder, solid line, dotted is what the RS does
Installed
TIA to Oleg Perelet for a couple of these pics
