What would happen if you left this screw out? I did and it has not been an issue where I have to curse. The panel is very secure [super light] up there, that this one screw is not holding it in!

I can’t imagine there could be a problem, assuming it is strictly cosmetic as a means of hiding the under dash.
The only possible function I could think of, and that’s a real stretch, is a slight bit of occupant leg protection in a frontal collision should you slide forward or dash parts slide back?
As for the inside cabin air filter, Porsche should have used a DZUS fastener (in plastic though). Hell, if a DZUS fastener can hold engine cowlings on an aircraft doing a few hundred knots an hour, it can hold a simple foam pad on. The one closest to the firewall is a PITA to get to.
And I should have known better. With a mere 7084 total miles, the outside filter was still pure white. Obviously the inside filter was just as clean. Had to check though due to age.
