Do you tip the instructor at a DE event?
I've been to one DE event a long time ago and I remember feeling awkward when I was trying to tip my ride-along instructor.
He didn't seem to want to take it....
I definitely didn't mean to imply that he needed the money, but only that I appreciated the instruction that I had received that day.
What do you guys think and if it's appropriate, what's the right amount for a 2 day Porsche club DE.
Thanks,
Dan

I've been instructing for 10+ years and had a few offers of a tip. One in particular was really insistent but I still (I hope graciously) refused.
While it's a nice gesture and kind of sweet, I instruct because I love the track and because I want to help others achieve the same enjoyment.
Awful nice thought, though. Being a good student and appreciative of my efforts is thanks enough for me.

I am regularly offered tips at Chin events, and once reluctantly turned down a $50 bill from an Audi R8 driver, who let me drive his car for a full session.
On the way home, as I stood at the gas pump and watched $65 drain into my tow vehicle's tank, I resolved to never again turn down a tip.
Sure enough, weeks later, a Ferrari student handed me a $100 bill and I graciously accepted it. In my many years, I have never been offered a tip from a Corvette driver. Porsche drivers usually offer up $20 bills...or lunch.

I too over the 20 years of instructing been offered cash tips I make sure not to offend the student by refusing so I choose my words carefully what seems to work best over the years is something to the effect "No thank you I do this cause I have a passion for it and to return the efforts instructors made with me while I was a student"
Seems to be accepted well

I think it's a value issue. If you feel like the information, the personal attention and the service you received was worth extra, it's your choice to offer a tip/beer/lunch. Just like it's the instructor's choice on whether or not to take it. Been going on, a long time... Not new.

I've bought lunch a number of times. I think it is a nice gesture.
