Default XGPS160 Auto Reconnect?

I have been struggling to improve the reliability of my HLT+XGPS+BT1+GoPro setup.

I have now updated both the iPhone and XGPS to latest OS and firmware versions.

iOS 10.0.2
XGPS 160 v.1.4.1

Reliability is improved; however, unlike the BT1 and other bluetooth devices, once the XGPS has lost connection to the iphone (as in when I leave the car between runs, so all the time between runs), it will not reconnect automatically when back in range. I have to go to Settings-->Bluetooth and 'press' the XGPS after which it toggles from Not Connected to Connected and works again. By comparison, the BT1 connects as soon as its in range like most BT devices.

Can someone else with an XGPS and iPhone try this:
1. Connect the devices. Make sure data is flowing.
2. Turn off Bluetooth from iOS Settings-->Bluetooth
3. Turn Bluetooth back on from IOS Settings-->Bluetooth.

Does your XGPS reconnect or does its status say 'Not Connected' like mine?
If you 'press' the XGPS, does it then reconnect like mine?

If anyone has a VBox sport (considering switching), can someone try the same experiment and let me know if the Vbos sport reconnects automatically.

Thanks! and an feedback appreciated.

I had the same issue. You are traveling down a slippery slope that many have gone down before you. And it usually has the word AIM at the end of the path.

I will be interested if you have luck with the Vbox Sport. I miss the simplicity and some of the functionality of HLT but the stuff you can do with AIM and Vbox are amazing.

Completely off topic but are you having any issues with the Rennlist app and iOS 10? My app crashes any time I type 6 characters in a post. I've been having to do everything in mobile safari.

Yes - you are correct . For me, it's about speed of review and for AX days, where there is very little time between runs, the instant feedback, in-car, from HLT is hard to beat with any of the pro solutions (AIM, VBOX, etc.). That's the main reason I am down the path I am. For track days where there is more time around run groups, an AIM/VBOX setup would be bulletproof and better.

I am reticent to spend any more money on APP type solutions as every dollar towards a new GoPro ($500) or VBOX Sport ($500) is a dollar towards a more pro solution. However, it's the instant feedback that I am after for AX days.

I wish a VBOX HD2 could serve as a HLT sensor. That would give me the best of both worlds.

Keep an eye on the Wivel. It could be a game changer for HLT.

So long as the BT connection is reliable. It seem the BT problems may be strongly iOS related, not the sensor. If you scan the apple forums, lots of BT reconnect trouble with a wide variety of devices.

My guess is it's BT client chipset dependent. I have some devices that connect every time I'm in range and others that are consistently a manual process.

Hoping someone with a VBOX sport can advise on its BT reconnect behavior.

No experience, as I use the VBOX Sport standalone...
