Default MXS - setting up lap timing

Where can I find a walk-through on setting up both lap timing and the predictive lap time feature? The "user manual" that came with it is wowfully lacking on the details. Thanks.

Pretty easy. Been made better since you got your dash.

Open the config, go to display, from the drop down menus in the central fields, select lap time, PredT or +/- then Save and Transmit.

The added benefits that have been introduced for all new dashes is MULTIPLE lap timing fields are now permitted.

The multiple time fields are great, but I find the +/- to be easiest for most drivers. It gives a quick idea if you are doing better or worse versus having to think about the actual lap time or predicted time.

I find when people use PredT, they start trying to do calculations in their minds when they should be focused on driving the car!

I time trial, where knowing the absolute lap time is important. On my competition screen I show best lap, predictive laptime and +- together. it's been very helpful to be able to see all of that together.

Thanks guys.

Okay, so once I send the new configuration with the timing enabled to the dash... then what? How do I tell the dash where to stop/start lap time? How do I download past lap times? I'm fine figuring this out on my own if I can just find a walk-through or document on how to not just set it up, but how to use it as well.

Thanks again.

For the new dashes, you have to configure the start/finish line for the track with GPS Manager (and download it to the GPS module). Most tracks are in the GPS Manager database, so you likely don't have to set up a start/finish point. The GPS module can store at least 50 tracks, so just download any track you're likely ever to be at.

This video should help you with GPS Manager: https://vimeo.com/45807596

https://vimeo.com/113682780 talks a bit about downloading data from the dash

Ah, that's right... never used GPS Manager and forgot all about it. Thank you very much for the links and I'll go do me some educating.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas everyone.

I just do something stupid after predictive tells me I am having a personal best. I drive too hard and then screw it up by blowing a turn. It is a curse but I can't help but put it on the screen.

THAT'S why I like +/-

All the instant gratification (or not) without the pressure!

i have a mxl2, but there is a bug which will not show the best time on my screen. It only shows the +/-. So on track I cannot see the actual best lap time that the +/- is correlating to. AIM is aware of the issue.

Bugs are usually addressed through firmware updates. Features are added as well.

Strange problem because lap timing in most RS3 configs for the MXL2 (and others) is enabled by default. You would have to add or change to show +/- or best lap.

Edit: Sorry, saw that you were having an issue showing BOTH Best Lap and +/-, most folks I speak to and the units I send out show current lap and +/-, because the +/- is INDEXED off of best lap...

Who are you speaking with at AiM?

Good.

I'm sure they'll address it. Thanks for the heads-up!
