SoloDL and 987.1 questions
Hello rennlist. First time post here so go easy on the noob
My car is a 2008 987.1 Cayman (non-S flavor) and I’ve been using a SoloDL with the OBDII connection this past DE season. I’d like to tap the resources of the hive mind to see what trace data it should be collecting / confirm with other 987.1 owners. Below I’ve listed out the available and recieved channels for two different templates I’ve tested (the manual says to use OBD_II / ISO9141_2). Neither template provides an ideal set of data.
Is it possible to create a custom template so that the DL collects trace data from both?
I ran into a problem with the firmware updater and now the device shows a blank screen and will not turn off. I was being an idiot and ran it from Win7 on VMware Fusion 7, the updater just froze and I let it sit for 2 hours hoping it would come back. I’ve seen a few posts but no fix. Have people sent their devices back to AIM for a re-flash? What is that process? I got mine through OG Racing if it matters.
Thanks!
Trace data found on both templates:
Internal / External Battery
GPS data
Accelerometer data
Calculated Gear (once calibrated)
Template 1
ECU Manufacturer: OBD_II
ECU Model: ISO9141_2
Data recorded:
OBDII_RPM
OBDII_SPEED
OBDII_ECT
OBDII_TPS
OBDII_IAT
No trace data:
OBDII_MAP
OBDII_FUEL_LEV
OBDII_PPS
Template 2 (this is for the 997/987.2)
ECU Manufactuer: PORSCHE
ECU Model: 997_987_MK2_OBDII
Data recorded:
WHEEL_SP_FL / FR / RL / RR
BRAKE_PRESS
No trace data:
RPM
THROTTLE_POS
ACCEL_POS
COOLANT_TEMP
INTK_AIR_TEMP
MANIFOLD_PRESS
FUEL_LEVEL
STEER_ANGLE

Thanks Bill. I'm not ready to go down the CAN route but I do see that as a possible solution for getting all the data.
Does anyone have guidance on what to do with a bricked SoloDL? I've reached out to AIM support but haven't received a response. Thanks.

How is it bricked? WHo have you contacted at AiM? AiM customer service is awesome- quick response and turn around times.

Thanks Matt (I don't seem to have an option to reply to a PM). Your solution doesn't seem to work. The battery was dead, so I plugged it back in, pressed down the two right buttons, the back light came on and the screen is blank. Held the buttons down for 5 minutes but nothing happened.

Send it to AiM's Roanoke Virginia office on the East Coast, Lake Elsinore California on the west coast. Very rare for these to get stuck booting, but they have processors and an OS and if there is corruption, that will happen, but they can fix it.
I don't understand your original post. To get a complete roster of channels, you will need to connect via the CAN harness, not OBD-II, but you say you don't want to do that.
The later version 987.2 uses a different ECU, sensor set and protocol than the 987.1
The Bosch GT3 protocol is what Bill's and other 987.1 equipment orders from me come loaded with.

So I've decided to switch to the CAN connection using t-taps and an add-a-circuit fuse. Does anyone know the gauge of the CAN wires in the harness? Also a source for the t-taps? I've only been able to find 100-packs online. Thanks.

I have never used t-taps, they look bulky to me. Might try Mouser?

If there is a 'simple' way to get brake pressure tot he Solo DL from a 987.1, I'm all ears!!
