Default AiM MXL2, MXS, MXG Wi-Fi Update

Something that has been long awaited - WiFi is not enabled with the latest firmware update for the new dashes. You have to do both the RS3 update and update the firmware in your dash.

Directions for the WiFi http://www.aim-sportline.com/downloa...0_upgrades.pdf

Yes with the new Race Studio 3 software and firmware on your MXL2, MXG, or MXS, (both accessed via the Race Studio 3 software) Wi-Fi communication is now available! I am working through the day to complete a new AiM Sports LearnFast video to help our users configure their systems. AiM has been working on this function for some time and it is just another free upgrade to your system, more to come!

For now. GPS Manager does not work.

Just RS3 config and logging file downloads, for now.

Doh! That's what I get for doing 10 things at once. I was excited to get the word out as so many people have been waiting for this.

Thanks for the heads up. I've downloaded the software and am looking forward to wireless access to my MXS next season!

A new AiM Sports LearnFast training video is now ready to help you understand the configuration process for WiFi communication with your MXL2, MXG, and MXS AiM Sports data systems. Of course you need to first update your Race Studio 3 software and AiM device firmware. Have fun!

Default Upgrade question

Currently have MXL system installed in 01 Boxster S .
What else would i need to change to upgrade to MXL 2 or MXS Dash?

Thanks

It should be straightforward. The external sensors (assuming you have any, in addition to the connection to the car) unplug from the harness that is part of the MXL and plug into the harness that is part of the MXL2/MXG/MXS. If you have more than four sensors, you will need an additional expansion harness for the new dashes, but all the connections are the same type and are completely compatible. I've done an F Stock Boxster upgrade from an MXL to a MXG and it was sweet! I do think the smaller color dash or the MXL2 would be fine.

If you only have 5 or 6 sensors and don't plan on using the extra wheel speeds, digital outs, or second CAN connection, it's cheaper to add a channel expansion and patch cable.

I've done some really trick MXS setups for Spec Boxsters. The cars had some neat things in them and the dash setups were great.

Actually, if you don't already have a Data Hub or purchase one with the MXL2/MXS/MXG (required to plug more than one AiM accessory into the dashes, for instance the included antenna AND a SmartyCam), the breakdown would be:

Expansion harness (four additional channel inputs to the new dashes) $355

Channel Expansion, Data Hub and the required conversion patch cables are $250, $60 and $39/each, respectively, so the break-even is five or more sensors now on the car.

Pretty much all the setups I sell include the Data Hub, so strong a believer I am in "intelligent video" provided by the SmartyCam, so the break-even would be six on-car analog sensors for the CE and patch cables to offer a cost savings...

Agreed. But, where he has an operational MXL Pista, I assumed (and maybe that was a bad assumption) that he already had the SCHD and data hub. Then it's $289 versus $355. For that, he has to decide how valuable the other 4 channels and features are.
