Default MXL3 and Iron Canyon

We are going to attempt to calibrate our fuel system this weekend. I've looked for a step by step guide. Can anyone point me to instructions for calibrations? We are using a 27gal fuel cell in our 911.

Thanks...

Don

jwasilko has done this.

He's tweaked it since then, so perhaps he can chime in.

Did you mean MXL2?

It's easy to do with the new software since you can see voltages directly from the software rather than having to set up a channel that displays voltages.

When I did mine, I drained the tank via the test port. I then added a half gallon at a time, let it stabilize and recorded the voltage.

My Miata is only a 12 gallon tank. For your 27 gallon fuel cell I might do half-gallons at the top and bottom of the range, and 1-2 gallons in the middle of the range. RS3 will only accept 20 data points in the sensor setup, so you'll have to 'fit' the data a little bit. That doesn't stop you from recording data every gallon and then later fitting it to the 20 that RS3 will take.

I could send you the google doc I used to record the info if that helps.

Also, the sender is voltage dependent. I mostly care about mine with the battery off (to make sure I have the correct amount of fuel on board to make weight at the end of a race), so I did that. If you care more about the level with the engine on, then record your data that way.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Also, here's a link to Iron Canyon's docs (they should be on a CD that came with the sender). It's specific to the older software/dashes though:

As a note you can get mv readings direct from the old dashes in RS2 in the online screen.

I did my Miata this last winter, think I did it twice as I was entering in the wrong values the first time.
