Noob Question: GoPro Footage
Hi Rennlisters,
I recently got back into HPDE after a year and a half long hiatus (too long!) I recently acquired a GoPro Hero 11 and managed to capture some footage of my recent HPDE day with a local group.
Does anyone have any tips, hints, or tricks on how to edit the video footage, and to add any kind of data from the GoPro itself? Admittedly, I did not download the GoPro app on my phone, so I expect limited data can be embedded into the video itself. Also, where is the ideal place to upload the footage to for sharing? I'm hoping the videos will help me and my HPDE instructors review what I'm doing, and to learn and improve from the experiences. If it helps, I'm running Windows 11. Thanks in advance!

I just upload videos to YouTube. Seems simple enough. Not sure on the rest as I don’t use GoPro.

Have a look at this software - if you have the camera’s gps turned on when taking footage apparently the software can use the gps and accelerometer data to populate overlays. I plan to try it out myself when it gets cool enough to hit the track here in Phoenix:

I recommend turning down the resolution to the lowest setting. More than adequate for review and then you can use VLC Player to trim and cut.
I recommend highly the Race Technology software for real analysis and overlay.

Thanks, folks.
Re: Race Technology Software - I see they list up to the GoPro 10. I have a GoPro 11. Anyone have experience with compatibility?
@ProCoach Thanks for the tip on the resolution. I not only ran out of batteries, but also storage on the SD card!

GPS enabled GoPro works fine. 11 should work.

Ok, first video ever. Open to any feedback!
Disclaimer: I am not focused on lap times at the moment. Only learning how to be consistent with smooth inputs and learning all the braking zones, entry points, apexes, and how to carry the momentum into the turns until I am able to pick up more speed.

Ok, next time, please aim camera down so you can see edges of the car in relation to the edges of the road. Second, please put on the screen background, lateral g number, longitudinal g number and combined g number (the last if available, I think it is). Also, plus or minus time in tenths and hundredths compared to your best previous lap. THEN, we (and you) will be able to tell a lot more.
Input? Slow hands, slow feet, not a lot of commitment, Mosport is a tough place.

Thanks, @ProCoach . Hands down - total rookie move on the aiming of camera. What "looked" ok from the driver seat, clearly did not translate onto the actual video itself. I'm hoping to get rid of any of the reflection from the windshield. Rookie mistake number two was not considering the edges of the car in relation to edges of the road. Any tips on removing the reflection? Is it advised to mount the camera on say the front bumper tow hook? Or does that make it worse?
Re: Lateral G / Longitudinal G, and Combined G, plus time as mentioned above. Feedback taken, and thank you. I am still learning to use the software, so please bear with me. I will figure it out and will update with another video later this week. I appreciate the feedback!

I bought a CPL filter, that helped me with the dash reflections.
Last year
Now
I'm using TrackAddict on my phone to gather the data, it's connected to an external GPS and an OBD2 dongle via Bluetooth. Takes a bit of fiddling in the Race Render app to get the video and data lined up, but once you've done it a few times it's only a couple of minutes. I also recently bought a Garmin Catalyst, but I don't really like its video output so I still record my own on the GoPro.

Thanks for sharing!
Would you mind sharing which filter you purchased, so I have a reference point?
I do my DE days with my local PCA, and timing devices aren't allowed. Something like a phone or a Garmin Catalyst would need to be hard mounted, which is a challenge on a 986 Boxster.
