G Force Channels
Equipment: AiM Solo 2 DL v2 / AiM SmartyCam 3 Sport / Porsche 991.1 CAN Bus Direct Wired
RaceStudio 3 shows the following data in the Toe at WGI:
Channel / Max Value
LateralAcc / 1.02 g
GPS LatAcc / 2.21 g
The SmartyCam overlay shows a max of 2.61 for GPS LatAcc.
Question: why the difference? What’s different between these three channels? A simple answer will be appreciated but learning how to find this information on my own would be invaluable.
Thanks

My first question is: Was the Solo 2 DL calibrated while connected using your online page in RS3 with the car on level ground?
Have no idea what the GPS derived lateral g is so far out other than to say that if there is a momentary drop in GPS signal can, upon reacquiring the signal, can spike.
Also, the video overlay NEVER matches the real-time information fed to it, simply due to the time it takes to render the information onto the video, in real time. Always a slight lag and some overshoot is possible. It’s there only for reference. Pull the card, open the file in RS3A and rely on the measures values more than the values shown on the video at the same point.

Not close to that much more on a street car!
But yes, the confluence of noisy spikes could result in a Channel Report showing crazy values.

Experts, should the calibration be done each time the S2DL is removed and replaced in the car, or just once? I've searched the AiM resources and can't find a straight answer. If anyone can point to one I'd appreciate it. Another great topic for an AiM AI support website.

IFF the mount hasn't moved, then it's probably not necessary if you are just removing the S2DL. If you moved the mount at all, then you need to recalibrate it as the orientation of the S2DL in space has change. You can also look at live measures and see if the accelerometers are reading zero for lat/long and 1 for vertical. If they are not, then they need to be calibrated.
