Default Interest in Data Marker/Flag Button

I wanted to gauge the interest in a button that could be tied into an AiM system as a marker button. It would let you use an analog channel as an input so you could put a marker in your data for you to find in analysis. Lots of motorsport steering wheels have these. Pricing would be around $45. I could do a few different colors, any length. Pictured is just for a prototype/sample. The whole mount diameter is 12mm and it's a nice low profile button.

Let me know what people think and I can make them if there is interest. What do people think?

Low profile button with lock nut on the back.

Easy connection to AiM data systems with a custom length on the cable.

I've wanted this for a while. I am in. Ideally I would like to place it on the steering wheel so cabling and connections that would facilitate this would be helpful.

I have a steering wheel mounted home-made version connected to a RIO and PDM. That even looks like the same push button switches I used.
It's awesome to be able to pull up a f-ton of data and quickly go to the oh-crap or I'm trying something different, moment(s).

You know I'll help with that! Shoot me a txt with a photo of you're wheel and we can figure it out.

It allows you to put an easily findable reference mark in the data file. Maybe you are trying 2 different lines through a corner. Click the button once on the straight before that corner for line 1; push it twice for line 2. Then you know, without having to cross reference video or have a great memory, what you did.

If you have full CAN bus integration and stock steering wheel... you could use the cruise cancel button, if you know what the signal is.

We use this and variations of this in testing...

There are a ton of cool tricks if you have full CAN integration. I figure these buttons are great for someone that doesn't have the ability (hardware or software) to do something super trick. This is the easy button for people to put a marker into their data.

Ha nice, I do the same. Much easier than grabbing the PC while driving, especially depending on your drive mode!! Not sure what SW you use but the Ctl + K feature in INCA is supper handy to add comments next to the marker when you have a passenger. I find myself relying on the cancel button most times though.

Did something similar on my non-CAN bus road car with a standalone ECU to add a marker. Repurposed an OEM momentary/non-latching rocker switch in the center console.

OP one suggestion might be potting that switch. Would give a much more reliable and robust connection, especially given those are soldered joints. For the Otto switch in my pic (same switch as yours except mine is latching ) I used a small section of SCL and partially shrunk it around the base of the switch then used that as a receptacle for the potting compound.

Matt,

Will one of these work with an MXm? What's the minimum spec device for this to be usable?

If you have an analog channel open to accept it, MXm would work fine. Anything with an analog channel.

As Peter said, it would work fine if you have an open analog channel to plug it into. I'm wiring it in a way it will work with any AiM logger.
