Default Pit stop timing with aim

I would like to use the aim system as a pit stop timer, (passing the pit entrance line would trigger a timer). I have been told this can be done by setting up a segment. Any input on how to configure it would be appreciated.

If we could incorporate into any data system that would be beneficial. Does the PCA timer for the enduros get triggered from transponder? Would love to get rid of the baking timer since I have forgotten to push the button more than once.

The aim people say it can be done but you wold have to set up a segment in aim for pit lane. I have a project that I think can solve the problem cheaply but I need to find someone who can write code in C++

Well, you could build a custom track with the splits in the existing software, no need for coding.

But then, you would need to know whether the pit box would be before or after the start/finish line, which is a split that is pretty valuable.

It’s doable, but that’s why a lot of pro teams build a countdown timer in MoTeC or buy a VBOX Lap Timer!

This might be a cool feature for Steve to implement in RaceVoice!

I have seen the vbox but it is $900.00, It can be done with an Arduino board and a gps unit, about $60.00 in parts.

Yes, the PCA Timer gets gets triggered by the transponder but I have seen instances where the timer was triggered 1/2 - 1 car length before the loop so don’t call it too close. Also keep in mind that the in/out loops might not be the same for a particular track from year to year.

Peter, how would I set this up on a VBOX?

I’ll ask, Frank. Not sure it’s integrated in the VBOX video/data recorders and OLED displays.

I was referencing the standalone device sold by VBOX specifically for this purpose, for professional IMSA, SRO, ELMS and VLN racing.

On several MOTEC dashes you can set up a count down timer. Press a button to start the timer when you cross the pit line and it begins at 5:02 and counts down. Or whatever time you choose. Works like an egg timer except integrated into the dash taking one bit of clutter out of the cockpit.

Can this be done with an AIM dash? Have looked but never found the secret to making it work.

You can do a pushbutton operated timer on all MoTeC dashes.

This possibility does not exist on the AiM dashes. Only odo functions, not timer functions, are available.

I have a few ideas I'll try to play with this afternoon. Not sure if they will work. The segment method will work, but will end up with drawbacks as have been pointed out.
